PCI-E is faster than AGP, so more modern mobos would have it over AGP, which if I'm not mistaken, has been discontinued.

It's impossible to learn all at once, you learn it as you go(imo). If you really want to learn something try getting a job at a computer repair shop because asking on a forum is just pointless. I'm not saying everyone here knows nothing about computers, I'm just saying only a few if any would even be willing to spend hours trying to teach someone something.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motherboard
Why not start from there, and as you go through, you'll get an idea of different slots, and ports. At the bottom, you'll see links for things like PCI-Express and BIOS, so you can follow those and learn more.

You can get this one, or try to find it at a library.
http://www.amazon.com/CompTIA-Certification-All-Guide-Sixth/dp/0072263113/ref=pd _cp_b_0
It's a textbook for A+ certification, so not only will it give you a lot of information (it's a huge book) but if you decide to go into a career in computers, it'll help you study for the exam.

Build a computer, and do your research. It's how I learned my stuff.
