No thanks. I didn't like the first book, and the movies look way too fantastical.
However, plenty of college students in my classes stayed up late to see it last night, which I find kind of worrying.

I have watched parts of the movies here and there and want to watch these movies in full but only after I finish reading the books. I have all 7 books and am reading the 6th one.

And why exactly is that? I am curious.

It's an adolescent fairy tale about wizards. Something about twenty and thirty something's getting excited about that sort of thing strikes me as a bit odd, but people in that age group staying up for the midnight showing is even weirder. Maybe it's just me.

meh, I see what you are getting at but for me it's the bigger story I want to get to the end of. Reading the 6th book, I find some parts a bit too silly for a older dude like me to to read (pre-pub teens getting first kiss etc) but I could care less; I read because I just want to know how the big story plays out in the end, who dies, etc etc

The books were good, and the length never bothered me.
The movies aren't as good as the books, but they do help give a nice visual representation of the story.
Haven't seen the newest movie yet, but I'm planning to.
