Does anyone here think it should really be used for medical purposes? IMO we have enough pain killers. Don't get me wrong I want marijuana to be legalized, but this is just about Medical Marijuana. I think it's doing more harm than it is helping because it has more carcinogens than cigarettes, if I'm not mistaken. So it's really not smart for doctors to be handing their patients cancer. If someone wants to use it as a pain killer that's fine, but it really doesn't make sense that they would let doctors do this.

Discuss the topic or how wrong you are?

If you do a Google search, you can find sources that state smoking marijuana DOES NOT raise cancer risks. Oh, and want the first link that I got? Why, it's none other than the clearly unbalanced-to-the-right FOXNews.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,196678,00.html

Edit: Carcinogens are not definitively linked to cancer. Here's a Yahoo Questions link that is answered by an actually INFORMED person who doesn't talk out of their ass, and she even links to a couple of sites.

And last, but certainly not least, I would highly suggest you read up on www.norml.org -- Yes, it's incredibly biased, but it doesn't follow annoying government propaganda and actually uses common sense findings.

A lot of painkillers are addictive, and they are also detrimental to people's health. Frankly, if Marijuana helps people with debilitating conditions, I am for it, as long as they aren't selling it to other people.

I really don't give a fuck. It doesn't affect me.

On the other hand, I hold it to be self-evident that what people put in their own bodies is their own business, so long as it doesn't affect other human beings... I don't in any way oppose this. I also don't in any way oppose the overall legalization of weed, so long as it is regulated the same way alcohol is. The world would not end, society would not go down the shitter (it's already there), and pot plants would not sprout out from between sidewalk cracks to strangle unsuspecting passers-by.

"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived of the use of them." - Thomas Paine

Remember, kids: illiteracy is cool. If you took the time to read this, you are clearly a loser who will never get laid. You've been warned.

The same thing happens with alcohol, too. Same for caffeine and sugar. People have different tolerances for substances and substances affects peoples' brains differently.

In Canada, taxes from pot revenues would bring in over two billion dollars.

However, I think it should be heavily regulated, like cigarettes, hopefully putting much of its production in the hands of tobacco manufacturers.

But everything else is taxed, like tobacco, and liquor. Marijuana should be taxed because it's a luxury. The taxes could be put towards infrastructure, or even paying for a medicare plan that would subsidize pills for people that need pain medication.

This isn't from any reputable source, but this sums up my thoughts on carcinogens, too...

Quote:

The definition of carcinogens is ridiculous. In short, we cannot figure out what exactly causes cancer, so we just do some correlations. If you've been reading yahoo news recently, the overnight shift at work is also one of those things that could potentially cause cancer. Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT stating that smoking doesn't cause cancer, it's just the definition of carcinogens is one of those 'loaded words' that we like to stick on things so that people don't do it.

I personally think it should be legalized.....the bs propaganda movie Reefer Madness is the ONLY reason weed is illegal. The biggest scare tactic ever....I'd go on but this is about MM.

As far as that goes it's the first step in legalizing Marijuana imo.
Studies have shown it to help relieve pressure caused by Glaucoma.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090423221216AAsI3ue&grp_name=m edicalmarijuanafreedom&grp_spid=1600854053&grp_cat=/Health___Wellness/Dr ugs_and_Medications/Marijuana/Legalization&grp_user=0 ....check out the 2 links in the best answer answer....pretty interesting stuff....especially the 2nd one about the pharmaceutical companies studies.

But then again other studies have shown differently (based on the length of time THC relieves the pressure, and the side effects).

The only reason I feel it should be legalized is the money that the government can make from it...The US can make a major attempt to get out of their (what was it?) 6 trillion dollar deficit? or whatever it is currently.

That's just my opinion after hearing on the radio that some border patrol agents confescated about $600,000 worth of marajuana in the desert here...
