Regardless, I'd say the loss of an organ (Especially one with the...ahem...special consideration of the penis) makes the risk in getting permission first worthwhile. You stand nothing to lose by waiting.

Again, let me note that in this case there was no cancer. In the persuit of prolonging this man's life, his doctor has essentially destroyed this man's quality of life. Which of the two is more important?

Old people have sex too, believe it or not. And even if they don't it's something with a lot of sentimental value. People who have stuff like this happen to them (Even when they actually do have cancer) often feel like less of a man.
