Its easier for alot of people who have all thier games launch through steam,Instead of having a million shortcuts on your desktop.
Plus theres a chat you can use ingame,and can start groups and shit with chat rooms.
easier to find cws with I think.

Hmm, eat my CPU (which I have plenty to spare) or randomly crash my game. I think I'll take the first option.
EDIT:
I added Renegade to Steam via "Add non-Steam game..." button, pointed it to a Renegade install with scripts 4, and I can confirm that launching Renegade via Steam does not crash on this Vista Ultimate x64 install.
