Hi all,
For years I have been using Norton Internet Security (anti-virus + firewall). While it seems to be good a stopping most attacks if something does get through Norton is usually useless at fixing or removing said infected files.
Does anyone have any Antivirus and Firewall combinations they can recommend? built in malware or root-kit detection features a bonus!
Thanks in advance

For Anti-Virus I would recommend ESET Nod32 it protects against spyware, viruses, and malware you can find more information about that here: http://www.eset.com/products/nod32.php.
ESET makes another piece of security software called "ESET Smart Security", it has a software Firewall, more information about that here: http://www.eset.com/smartsecurity/ See below on my opinion about Firewall though.
For Firewall you don't really need one in my opinion as long as you have a router that has a Firewall you are fine, most routers have a hardware Firewall that protects against incoming traffic by pretty much denying everything it doesn't know about, Windows itself has it's own Firewall(software Firewall) built in that protects against incoming traffic(if you have Windows Vista it's Firewall has outgoing traffic but you have to enable it), a router is basically all you need in my opinion.
If you really want a software Firewall which protects against outgoing and incoming traffic I recommend Comodo which is free, while I haven't tried it myself I've heard many good things about it, you can find that here: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/.
For Spyware I would recommend Spybot - Search&Destroy(Free), more information about that here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html.
For Malware I would recommend Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware(Free for scanning), you can find that here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php.

I personally use Nod32 (not free) and zonealarm (free). I use a software firewall because I turned off my hardware firewall.
If you want to keep it 100 % free, then AVG + zonealarm would be my advise.

I prefer Sygate as firewall (srry, won't work on vista(if you use that))
I like because it shows what program is actively receiving/sending data on you pc, which I haven't see any other firewall doing
Moding can be real Fun...

I've use sygate for a long time, until it decided to block my Internet connection completely without any notifications / warnings. I then understood just how shitty it must be...
