Either that, or either side of the party could just post ingame logs of other player's reactions to his supposed spamming and the supposed caps spamming as well. This will certainly be better proof than these arguments going nowhere.

People aren't just commenting on what you said to him, it's cos you said it despite being in a position of authority.
let me say that again, maybe you'll understand it this time: You are a moderator so shouldn't talk to people, at the place you moderate, like you're a complete prick.
I'll reiterate again: You should be talking to them maturely. In this case you should have just muted him, and when he asked why, tell him exactly why you did it, and if he continues to mither you...just ignore him.
Nobody cares that it's 'just' the internet. Do you act like this on the internet to make up for something in real life, or do you actually talk like that to people you meet?
Enough of the narrow-mindedness. Start seeing that this is about that you are a mod there yet talked to him like you've only just learnt how to swear.

What server/irc are you mod of?
If i do start playing ren again, i'd like to avoid it. After all, it has you on it's mod team.
You still didn't get it isn't just cos of what you said, it's cos you are a mod and you said it. As a moderator, someone in a position of authority, you shouldn't be saying things like that.
Although, if your attitude to the internet is that you can hurl abuse at people, just cos it's the internet, then it should be you who should GTFO the internet.
