So, I've kinda wanted to make a topic like this awhile ago, but never got around to it. I remember when Goztow banned that one guy advertising for AVP2 mod stuff, and I said something something along the lines of "If you contributed more and actually helped the community out and stopped advertising, you'd probably not be banned". And I'm wondering if I was right- if you contribute and help out alot, but then make some pretty big faults, do your contributions excuse this more? Or is it just that people who DON'T contribute are simply LESS excused?
And whether it is or isn't this way, SHOULD it be that way?

I think people generally tolerate the contributers more when they do something shitty, because they're proven to normally be nice people.
When they do something shitty, it's out of character.

Goztow was willing to excuse his trolling because he made some quality, constructive posts in other areas of the forums. However, troop kept trolling, and his good posts started to dwindle. Once it was seen that he was an absolutely worthless contributor to the forums (and that a vast majority of members thought he was deserving of a ban), Goztow talked to Crimson, and troop was promptly banned.
I'm assuming that had troop continued to actually contribute something positive to the forums (even amidst his negative contributions), he probably wouldn't have been banned. At least, not permanently.

Agreed, if your going to help people then people can deal with your stupidity, but once you quit helping people get annoyed and see you as a waist of bandwidth.
Then you go bye lol.

That's a pretty bad example, troop's good post to shitty post was about 1 to 2, in all seriousness. Probably even more.
Personally, I think that things that go against the law or against rules or are considered bad in whole, should be equally punished amongst people. Title and such should not affect this. I mean yeah, sometimes there's reasons as to why (Such as a bus driver crashing a bus... not too many people actually drive buses other than bus drivers, so yeah). But I'm saying if a Senator or Congressman were to, say, not pay their taxes, essentially kill their wife, or the like, I don't think that is ANY reason to EVER excuse their behavior.
Punishment should be equal amongst all men and women. And on occasion, dog.

Oh lol, beings you originally started the topic talking about Goztow banning AVP2 mod guy I was assuming you were talking about just on forums, but yes, in Real Life I absolutely agree with you.

Or, how bout the mods don't be so two-faced and ban people. obviously the people that really help out are probably smart enough not to do stupid stuff. Nobody wants to be that person that gets kicked out forever because of one mistake, but rules are rules and should be treated as such. If a mod decides not to ban someone for doing something wrong, they shouldn't be a mod. The purpose of mods is to keep the community under control and keep it clean. So if this goes on, why have mods at all? It's not fair to ban a newbie and not ban a well-known user for doing similar things, and isn't that what it's supposed to be all about?
The road I cruise is a bitch now, baby.
