For Lent, I'm giving up going on forums. Although some of you, cough cough spoony cough, may not agree with me, they are my ideas and I will see you all sometime in April.

I'm giving up my religious beliefs, but I think that'll continue after Lent is over and done.

They're also supposed to give up something indefinitely. It's not like the point is to not do it for a while and then binge on it when the period is over. It should be something of a higher value than "Eh, I won't eat potato chips." Something more close to the heart that you're changing about yourself.

But whatever, I don't practice it. Razz

Because of all the Christians giving up stuff, the economy will implode.

Therefore, for Lent, I'm gonna consume, and buy as much shit as possible.

I bet the person who dreamed this up was just trying to get the fatties to give up most of their diet.

Lent confuses me. Why would you use religion (of all dumbass things) as an excuse to give up something you enjoy? Also, why is it still ok on Sundays?

Oh, and you're not supposed to eat meat on Fridays during Lent. BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DO. I mean, you might actually ENJOY a meal if you get to eat what you want. Nobody wants that, especially God.

whoa.

I don't follow lent at all, it's just like "Oh, I'll give up something that's not really important to me." To be honest, I think that's rather pathetic, no offense to anyone.

My friend, Dima, is Russian Orthodox, and you know what he HAS to give up for Lent? He doesn't get to choose what he gives up at all.
He gives up:

  • TV (but for Documentaries)
  • Dairy and meat (essentially turns vegan)
  • Computer Games of all sorts
  • and finally, music (but for Russian Church Choir)
And he has to do this for periods of 3 weeks to sometimes 3 months, and he usually has to do it multiple times a year, which leaves it at 1/3 to half the year being on Lent.

Nowadays I don't even find the Lent that most people follow even remotely religious. So I don't do it at all.

In Soviet Russia, Lent gives up you!

I tried to give up broccoli for lent as a kid once (give up things you don't do anyways, or things you're obligated to do) as a smartass and my parents were like "Ha, you wish."
