Yeah, XP was pretty damn glitchy when first released too, although the difference is that Vista still is pretty buggy. Even without the bugs, compatibility sucks, and there's too many workarounds to get stuff to work IMO.

Sadly, as I said before, the hatred and bashing of Vista is somewhat necessary, otherwise they'd probably not be working on Windows 7. Believe it or not, the bashing and such is necessary to make a better product out of a mega monopoly company.

Depends on your computer. XP is still buggy and laggy like hell on this laptop, whereas I have no problems with Vista x64 on here whatsoever.

Sure it had its problems when it came out. Every single windows ever has. I'm talking about the ones that to this day type stuff like VIST SUCKS OMFG or FUCK MICROSOFT THEY R GAY. You know the ones. They have either have no fact for their opionion they just jumped on the bandwagon or they were to stupid to use it right.

Vista is still too much of a system hog, has too many backwards-compatibility issues, and still includes too much DRM and too much handholding. That's why I bash it, not because of the bandwagon- because, while it functions smoothly now, it is still a bad product. In my own humble opinion.

But that's another thread. Several of them, actually.

To its credit, Microsoft is very diligent about patching, and I can't recall ever having been charged for anything that should have been free. XP, as wonky as it was back when it came out, is running like a finely tuned perpetual motion machine these days; I haven't had a hiccup that wasn't caused by third-party software or user error for years now. They also used to make some damn fine joysticks, and I've never found a mouse that made my hand happy quite like the IME3. Big business does, quite often, get it right- but they just as often get it wrong, and when they do they're more likely to try to smooth over the failure than admit to it and try something different.

They (big buisiness in general, not just MS) also like to release similar products over and over with minor tweaks and changes- which is what EA is mainly guilty of. For examples of that, you need only look as far as The Sims or any of their licensed sports titles. Toymakers do this a lot as well, especially the ones who are big on dolls- they'll release a particular set of clothing that may only be had through the purchase of a whole new doll rather than as part of an accessory pack. You see a lot less of that kind of thing with smaller companies and independently-owned companies because they have to constantly innovate or get plowed under. On the other hand, much of the reason why smaller companies tend to be more innovative is because the larger ones aren't; if they didn't have that giant steamroller chugging along at their heels they might not be so motivated to move forwards.

"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived of the use of them." - Thomas Paine

Remember, kids: illiteracy is cool. If you took the time to read this, you are clearly a loser who will never get laid. You've been warned.

My biggest gripe is that i actually worked for a big business...

GE was the company and not many companis are bigger than they are. While I apreciated the work and their investment in my community a very alarming trend has developed within the site I worked at as well as other electronic manufacturing companies.

GE was the worst as they took imported labor off the boats from communists countries and actually made them "Specialists", instead of the more revelant term "Communists" which basically means crporate spys, not the corporate spys u r thinking of but rather spys who spy on and tattle constantly on their co workers.

Luckily I got out of that corporation 3 yrs ago and am now unemployed but can at least move around freely without holding my breath and go to the store with out some GE communist screaming at my back, temping me to join a civil war against this communism.

I like EA and semi-like Microsoft. (Maybe if they didn't charge me double the amount for Xbox live and then continue to charge me until I bought another month...)

However, as said above, especially in the gaming industry, the more companies you control, the more fans you have to please, and thus the more generic "everyone gets what they want" kind of games come out.

Ya big companys like that chagre a great deal, your second point makes sense

people don't like microsoft, or more-over, Windows because they're dumb and can't work computers.

Besides apples there no other type of OS really besides maybe a few more that home users can really use I guess which is why they use windows

danpaul88 wrote on Tue, 13 January 2009 01:37

I have no issues with Microsoft, their products are generally of a high quality and fairly stable. Their Visual Studio line of products in particular are very impressive and I have yet to find any other IDE which rivals it in terms of integration and usability.

Most of Microsofts products are let down by third party code, particularly their operating systems. Vista in particular is plagued with buggy or non existant driver support from hardware manufacturers, and often gets the blame for things which are not actually it's fault, such as poorly written drivers and applications. People are too quick to lay the blame at Microsofts door because it happens to be the most obvious target to blame.

As for EA, I object to their treatment of the C&C franchise and their continued efforts to completely and utterly destroy everything it once stood for. However their other games are often very good (even if, sadly too often, heavily laden with DRM) and I have no intention of boycotting their entire product portfolio.

I also hate how they fucked up the cnc world but if lets say cnc was made in the way they wanted it to the new cnc games are still pretty fun for what they have planned

NukeIt15 wrote on Tue, 13 January 2009 13:07

The best reason I can think of is that, when a company reaches a certain critical mass, it no longer needs to ask its customers what they want... instead, it begins telling its customers what they want. Smaller businesses depend more heavily on the good graces of their customers, and are thus more strongly compelled to provide quality services in order to retain those customers. Big business knows that it can do just about whatever it damn well pleases and, unless it gets really unlucky, enough people will buy the product anyway because it is cheaper or more widely known.

I don't *really* hate the business for being what it is; I hate the customers for not being smart or motivated enough to force it to change. I strongly dislike certain companies, but in the end they're really just looking out for their own skins. The customers are responsible for creating an environment in which parasitic, unethical businesses may thrive and grow rather than dying on the vine.

So its kinda like they buy what ever they get so micosoft can sell what ever they want?

Vista worked surprisingly well at launch compared to the last major consumer operating system Microsoft released (Yes, I'm talking about XP)

Well, the main reason I like the 360 is the games just appeal to me. Halo 3 and Left 4 Dead are just amazing. Not sure if L4D is on other consoles but it's great on Xbox live.

Also, you could try the towel trick as a temporary fix to your 360 BUT I highly recommend against it as it can cause more lasting damage. Usually they want you to send your xbox in to be repaired, or they'll give you a new one, provided your warranty hasn't expired.

There's a warranty that comes with the xbox originally I'm pretty sure, but it expires after like a year or two, I suppose you can probably renew it for a charge but I don't know.

Does a warranty come with it, or do you have to buy one

There's a warranty that comes with the xbox originally I'm pretty sure, but it expires after like a year or two, I suppose you can probably renew it for a charge but I don't know.

you buy ps3 if broken you can repair it
but if you buy xbox360 and found red light and your warranty expire you will throw it to bin and other people have xbox360 and live in another country can't send it to microsoft
xbox360 very suck

And Sony's warranties DON'T expire? Sony sucks just as much as Microsoft. Maybe even more, because they're Japanese.

yeah

After like, 16 years, my SNES still fires up like it's brand new. Now that's quality.
