I like EA and semi-like Microsoft. (Maybe if they didn't charge me double the amount for Xbox live and then continue to charge me until I bought another month...)
However, as said above, especially in the gaming industry, the more companies you control, the more fans you have to please, and thus the more generic "everyone gets what they want" kind of games come out.

I don't mind people hating them but they need to be consequent and not use any objects/services they make then. That includes not pirating them, of course.

Big companies most likely think:
"We have our name, we have our fame, we can release whatever we want for the price we ask, people will buy it."
Also, sometimes they even force their own creations into their releases. Microsoft inherits their own browser IE7 in Vista, they inherit Media Player etc. Though Winamp is proven to be better than WMP and Firefox is better than IE7.
They're just a big bunch of jackasses which are only out on MONEY.

Alot of big busineses revolve around making profit.
As far as I know one of the reasons why EA brough out
Westwood and other companies was in order to increase
its profiting potential.
I used to work for Morrisons when I did A levels.
There was alot of things wrong with the place but
they were not willing to do anything about it due
to the fact that they would be spending more money.
Since the Business(system) was already working they
felt they need not spend their profits so they could
be the most profitable supermarket in the UK.
I have no problem with Microsoft, I think their products
and customer service are satisfying.
So the point im trying to make is that alot of big businesses
have the aim to make profit and that they are so willing to
do this to the point that hurting peoples feelings or ruining
something else is not an issue that should be addressed.
ie EA buying out Westwood and Taking C&C away from them.

I mostly dislike large companies because they often have little competition when they get too big, ruining innovation. And what little innovation there is, is very slow. Wheras when you have a ton of smaller companies (Rather, companies all on the same level), they all compete to create a better product. 'Tis the basis of capitalism, and it works quite well. Until the company gets TOO big, that is.
Thankfully, the nature of revolt is also in our nature, so when a company gets too big, people bash it to keep it under control, much like how alot of C&C fans bash EA. It's not exactly the best choice or the most intelligent, but it's somewhat necessary to keep EA in line. Otherwise, we'll continue getting shitty games.
As for Microsoft, I'm kind of indifferent to them. They DO have plenty of great products, and for being one of the largest companies in the world, they have a TON to manage, so I can sympathize with them not being able to please everyone. But, on the other hand, things like Vista and such have little to no excuse to have been released.

This makes me giggle. Why would people complain that a company released THEIR OWN PRODUCT and incorporate other parts of it WITH THERE OWN PRODUCT. Thats kind of umm... fucking obvious.
Also "proven to be better" . NO. your wrong. Which application to use is a preference, not a proven fact. I personally like WMP a lot more then winamp, and find firefox slow at opening. So, i use IE becuase it is my PREFERENCE.
But seriously who would have thought of the idea of NOT advertising your competition...yes.. big bad microsoft.

The best reason I can think of is that, when a company reaches a certain critical mass, it no longer needs to ask its customers what they want... instead, it begins telling its customers what they want. Smaller businesses depend more heavily on the good graces of their customers, and are thus more strongly compelled to provide quality services in order to retain those customers. Big business knows that it can do just about whatever it damn well pleases and, unless it gets really unlucky, enough people will buy the product anyway because it is cheaper or more widely known.
I don't *really* hate the business for being what it is; I hate the customers for not being smart or motivated enough to force it to change. I strongly dislike certain companies, but in the end they're really just looking out for their own skins. The customers are responsible for creating an environment in which parasitic, unethical businesses may thrive and grow rather than dying on the vine.
"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived of the use of them." - Thomas Paine

They do that because it's standard. You can't really expect them to not include any browser with Vista, because that would make it a lot more difficult for people to access websites. FireFox isn't their product, and it's probably illegal in some way for Vista to use it as a standard.
Same goes for Windows Media Player. It's standard on Windows. Also, you can't really "prove" that one product is better than another, that's just too biased. Just because you happen to prefer those things over Vista's standard programs, doesn't mean it's wrong for them to be using these products.
What most of everyone else here is saying pretty much sums it up. Large companies yearns to please everyone, so they have to pretty much desperately try and release things that makes everyone happy, which never really works.

That's like complaining to McDonalds that they don't serve Burger King... or buying a Sony TV, and expecting it to come with a Toshiba remote.

Of course they're out to make money... you expect them to do all the work, and then just 'give' it to you? Would YOU hold a job if your employer demanded you work for free?

Couldn't be that vista legitimately sucked when it first came out?

Vista worked surprisingly well at launch compared to the last major consumer operating system Microsoft released (Yes, I'm talking about XP)

Yeah, XP was pretty damn glitchy when first released too, although the difference is that Vista still is pretty buggy. Even without the bugs, compatibility sucks, and there's too many workarounds to get stuff to work IMO.
Sadly, as I said before, the hatred and bashing of Vista is somewhat necessary, otherwise they'd probably not be working on Windows 7. Believe it or not, the bashing and such is necessary to make a better product out of a mega monopoly company.
