That is my wish too...several gaming companies have sold their home-grown series and have come back in later years to rebuy the licence.
EA is so screwed up the C&C series...I have C&C3, KW...all lying inside boxes cuz they so damn boring.
They will probbaly use C&C to get the temporary cash (like with RA3)...

I have heard rumors in some server communities and also generally in the TT forums in the early skin topics. I am reading them all now for the next hour or so lol....
I understand to catch skin abusers, skins must be controlled but I NEVER use abuse skins. I never snipe and even if I did I never use a sniper skin with red head and blue body...you know what I mean?
So the good people should not suffer for the crimes (if you can call that!) of the few. It's like the gun control issue; don;t take away my ability to use my shotgun just cos neighbor is going around killing with his shotgun.
I know TT will do the best but the whole "server-side "list" of allowed skins" idea creeps and scares the heck out of me...just imagine driving around with the default texture Mammy? LOL? I want my own custom Great Soviet Union Moscow Elite Guards mammoth skin lol. Heck my ren has so much skins (all acceptable) I don;t even know how many are there.
And then there's the issue Di3 brought up with the W3D models. Sure with the patch, no more sexy dance club techno trance Barracks that Di3 made.  
And putting a option for servers to allow skins or not won't really work though it would be good for sniper servers; but still it will take away the rights of a honest Ren sniper who uses a accepted sniper skin.
So this is my whole worry at this point. But I think even with these options, the decision will rest with the communities to allow it or not if they got an option.

where did i say I will leave? So ur implying people should stay even if custom skins/modding is crippled or taken away? It's a part of Ren to have custom skins. If not allowed, then you turn off Ren for many.
Every game that has modding capabilities has survived to this day, including Doom. Yes, many play still.
The idea is to keep people from leaving a dying game, not making it a holy sanctuary so CW type dicktators like urself can force purist crap on people who play ren after coming home from a long hard day's work.

Protip: Servers can say "I don't care what models/HUD the user plays with" already. Some servers do want that level of control over their players and RenGuard did offer it ("Pure" mode). The difference between what RenGuard and the TT patch is doing is simple. RenGuard forces you to remove all your models/textures/skins/huds/etc before you are allowed to play on a Pure mode server, while the TT patch simply doesn't load them if the server disallows them.

A rant but your are wrong to say modding has not done anything. C&C Mode is why I play this game still and having the ability to change small things like skins is a good bonus imo, albeit a necessary one.
