Which also didnt happen on December 25th! December 25th is the pagan winter solstace or Roman Brumalia (meaning new sun or shortest day). Brumalia being ancient Greek in origin.
Spoony wrote on Sun, 07 December 2008 15:35 | not really, cos the Bible doesn't say when Christmas is. that comes from traditions stolen from pagan festivals, the movements of the sun and stars and what not.

^^
The original pagan festival - the winter solstace, was very much celebrated when the bible was written. Just not by Christianity. In fact, Christianity celebrated more significant events like the death of Christ, the ressurection etc... not his birth - at least, not until much later. By then, no-one had a clue as to when he was born.
The word Christmas is derived from Christ Mass - Christ (obvious), Mass - the ancient Greek meaning celebration of death (or there abouts).
Christmas as we know it, was invented by Roman Christians who realised that it would be easier to convert an entire country to Christianity (ie. ancient England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland) by integrating the more popular and traditional pagan rituals (Brumalia) and passing them off as their own.
So really, if you celebrate Christmas, you are either celebrating the death of Christ. Or, you're a heathen paganist! ![Thumbs Up](images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif)

Anyways, back to the original point to this thread! RIP to all men and women who lost their lives due to the events of that day.
