Fuck, it sounds stupid but I had a response typed out, and then this computer died and yeah.
tl;dr, domestic initiatives. I agree the war has been mismanaged, and no, having troops in two other countries has nothing to do with stopping the frequency of attacks on our own nation. Al Qaeda isn't that sort of organization, and having our guys in their countries does indeed simply give people an excuse to kill our troops.
Also, I do ignore public opinion polls most of the time, I just thought that was kind of interesting considering the subject. And Dick Cheney is Satan, so him doing stupid shit like that does not surprise me.
I'm looking forward to reading the book Bush plans to write, though. Definitely could use some insight into some of his dumber decisions which I hope he addresses.
