Doesn't look like you understand how this works. With the DRM EA's throwing on there, it may become necessary to crack your game.
You may be thinking "Well, if you bought it, why would you have to crack it?" Well, it's not that simple. With the DRM there are all sorts of ways you can get screwed out of playing a game that you've legally bought. Say you've already used up your 5 installs, and EA refuses to grant you anymore authentications for whatever reason. You've just rented the game for $50. You can just forget about it or crack it so you can play the game.
It's pretty much all the same thing for any sort of DRM, not just SecuROM. They're just punishing those who are following the law while those who pirate the software simply have a better product for the very attractive price of free.

That's funny- I can't recall having said anything about not buying games. Your mastery of the language is so very impressive, isn't it?
Let me clarify: I do not pirate games, I buy them. I do, however, download and use cracks to bypass shitty DRM so that I'm not paying $60 for some half-assed phone-home security software to fuck up my $2500 computer. SecuROM is just about the most invasive DRM out there, so any game "protected" by it does not get installed on my computer until there is a proven-reliable crack to bypass it. RA3 will be a decent game at best, and I don't consider it worth the trouble (since it can sometimes take a fair bit of searching and fiddling around to un-DRM a game) when I could spend the same $60 on a great game with less obnoxious copy protection. Get the picture?

This is total crap. I have never pirated games but to allow only 5 installs? Total BS...no freaking way. I have re-installed Ren/other games so many times it scares me to know I can install/reinstall a $50 game only 5 times?
It's just too draconian to put a installation limit. I guess I will have to find a way...heh I will...

It's some gay anti-piracy crap that has one major draw back: it only allows you to install the game like 2 or 3 times before the installer becomes unusable and you have to pay to install it more.

Are you fucking joking? EA didn't really screw up RA2, it was (in terms of gameplay) one of the best C&C's so far. Don't even get me started on the modability. I'm working on like 2 mods for it as we speak, and when exactly did this game come out?
RA3 is shaping up to be an incredible game. I've played the beta a ton, it truly is probably the most fun experience of any C&C I've played.
However, I have principles, and truly the DRM is a showstopper for me. Perhaps sometime in the future I might get over it, but for now it doesn't seem likely.

Keep in mind that your version of "fun" doesn't necessarily equate to anyone else's. I guarantee there will be at least as many people who think it suck as players who enjoy it.
I may still try the demo, when it comes down the pipe, because I don't believe in writing off a game as shit before it comes out. I still have a number of questions about the game that I'd like answered- even though I have no intention of buying it. However, it looks like the same RTS formula that's become so dominant in the genre- lots of special units, lots of superweapons, lots of rushing. Lather, rinse, repeat. Not my idea of a good time.

True enough, but lots of people can agree on certain fundamentals at least with RA2. It was a revolutionary game, to say the least.
I see where you're coming from too with RA3, but I have to say you need to try it first. I had the same doubts you've said before I played it but playing it completely changed my opinion.

Agreed. EA is notorious for grabbing popular and unique game series and turning them into clones that they release and re-release each year with a new name. Need for Speed series for example.
But you gotta admit that the C&C games have great replay value...in other words, you never really get bored. Replay value is something I really look at when buying a game. But for any C&C game, of course, I buy it right away...thats a given.
I like the skirmish options in C&C3 for example with the different types of AI. Lots of replay fun there. You can never really get bored...lots of features to play with.

RA2 was not revolutionary man...RA2 was what TS was supposed to be. But yes, great game when it comes to playability.

I think they're both equally awesome. RA3 is the more balanced of the two but RA2 definitely has a few things up on it- modability, etc.

Ra 3 is more balanced, thers no rhino spam that allies cant handle or else. Allies vs Soviets are almost perfectly balanced compared to underpowered Empire of the Riseing Cock..sun.
Unit quotes are fun.
