Are there any tools that can be used to make skins other than Photoshop and similar? I would like to try skinning but I can't buy any image software. Perhaps there's a freeware-type image editor that can do the job half-decently?

Also you could try http://www.splashup.com/ or use the GIMP there is a tut on renhelp to use it, but i recommend getting an older version of the gimp cuz it looks more like photoshop Razz but try the new one as well. also it's light weight.

It means you don't have the GIMP plugin required to open .dds files. Basically it has no idea what the fuck is going on and had an anxiety attack.

Does it need anything extra to edit dds files and such like? Or any special instructions I should know about?

Or do I just roll with it, see what comes out Huh
