So earlier this year it became law in California that you could not use your cell phone in the car without some sort of hands free device, leading everyone in the state to become "that douchebag that wears their bluetooth all the time, even when they're not on it."

Anyway, I got a BlueAnt Z9i, a GREAT unit if I don't say so myself. It's got a noise cancelling algorithm that makes it so the other person can't even tell you're in the car. It's fantastic.

But ANYWAY... I'm forced by law to wear this thing in the car, and it has a blue LED on it that flashes every few seconds to indicate that it's on and connected to my phone.

Tonight, I got pulled over and given a ticket because apparently it's against federal law to have a flashing blue light in your car. The officer explained that it can be confused with a police siren.

So WTF am I supposed to do???

Appeal the ticket? Most of these headsets seem to have a flashing light and I can't remember seeing one that wasn't blue. Sounds like they were being really anal over the whole thing.

Well to be fair it is illegal to have a blue flashing light in/on your vehicle. But I think thats going a bit too far. Fight the ticket.

the light on the bluetooth device is not even big enough to be mistaken as a police light..

Appeal against the ticket... its a ridiculous claim from a retarded officer

Put a piece of electrical tape over the light, but I don't recommend fighting the ticket, even if you win they still put that stuff on your record, and if you get pulled over again they will look at that and it will reduce your chances of getting a warning.
