I heard that if you play the practice on other maps there wont be any bots...
are there any fixed versions anyone is aware of, and if not how would i go about trying it?
and also what does scripts344.exe actually do to the game?

Scripts 3.4.4 is an updated scripts by Jonwil. It loads the game a lot faster and gives new scripts to play with in LE. For 3.4.4 you need DirectX 9 otherwise get scripts 2.9.4 .
As for bots, you could download the Bot mappack...

Renegade only came with one bot map, and it's on under. There are however, as said, maps you can download with bots.
