I'm not sure if any of you know about this, but there is a 9 year-old kid who has been told to stop pitching in his baseball league. It's not because he's too young or too old. It's not because he causes problems (intentionally). It's because he's too good. That's right, people are discouraging a kid from playing because he's TOO GOOD.
It's sad that we live in a society where we punish those for excelling at what they enjoy. Shouldn't it be the goal to want to improve ourselves to the level of those ahead of us instead of discourage others, so we don't feel bad about ourselves? It would seem so. We can't improve as a society if we discourage progress for the protection of others' feelings.
I understand these are children, and that's a little bit different from if they were adults. The last thing we want to do is to discourage kids from playing sports because they're not as good as others. However, in today's pussy liberal society, we focus way too much on protecting others' feelings from getting hurt. Instead of teaching our children to face adversity, we coddle them and teach them that they're perfect the way they are. Unfortunately, that's not true.
Nobody has the right to never be offended or to feel inferior. I've said that before, and I'll continue to say that. Without adversity, we are incapable of changing and improving. We didn't evolve because conditions were too good. Technology doesn't improve because society is perfect. There is always room for improvement, and it's that room for improvement that makes us better ourselves. Without it, we sit at a stand still. I don't know about anybody else, but I like the prospect of society changing and improving, rather than just sitting in a stagnant pool of complacency.
This is pretty much why I hate Socialism and Communism. Society doesn't improve when everybody's the same. What ambition do you have to improve when everything is given to you? You have little to none, and if you can't benefit from the improvement, then that makes it even more pointless to attempt to improve. The concept of everybody being equal is what's destroying society. If we embrace differences and allow people to succeed over others, society, as a whole, can do nothing but improve.

Quote: | Jericho's coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league's administrators.
Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching.

I have a feeling this has less to do with the boy's talent, and more to do with adults acting like children.
Heck, when I was 11, our league had some really good pitchers who'd throw hard, and right down the plate. Some parents complained, saying the kids should be 'moved up' . Instead of complaining, the parents and coaches of my team chipped in for our team to go to an indoor training facility, and have us all spend a day taking swings at balls from pitching machines. It went so well, that we made a point of spending an hour a day per weekend in the batting cage just hitting fast throws.
It worked.

I'm not sure how the media can twist this story. A kid, who is actually 9 years old, playing in a 8-10 y/o league is told not to pitch because parents are "scared" for their kids.
BlueThen wrote on Tue, 26 August 2008 15:56 | Sounds like his godly pitching abilities are ruining the fun for all the other players because they can't hit the ball, and after a buttload of complaints from parents, he was probably kicked out to go for a bigger team.
I don't know, just a guess.

...And the point went directly over your head.

And just like that, the plague spread from online gaming to the entire internet... and when the internet could no longer contain it, the plague spread beyond... and it was called by its name: HUA.
(That's Head Up Ass for those of you who don't do acronyms)
Please, somebody tell me that I'm not the only one who sees a parallel with all the bloody n00bs online (especially admins) who start kickvotes, request bans, or outright leave the game because they're getting their asses kicked by somebody who's just plain better. This kid's one of the honorable ones, too- he's good at what he does, but he's humble about it. This kid's future role model material, no matter what profession he chooses- unless the Legions of Mediocrity get him first.
The mother's reaction was a bit extreme, but IMHO understandable- the opposing team (which was probably made to walk off by parents and coaches, not the kids) behaved like a bunch of two-year-olds. How can they ever expect to get better unless they face a challenging opponent? Do they just abandon the game every time it looks like there's a good chance they might not win, then blame it on some crocked-up "dangerous element" or another? For that matter, knowing youth leagues, how many of these kids are even playing because they want to, and how many are playing because their parents want to make trophies of them? If you ask me, it all goes downhill once you get organized at that age... supervised pick-up games are much more appropriate for kids.
Nevermind the inherent hypocrisy in allowing your kid to play an active team sport where objects (very capable of inflicting blunt force trauma) are routinely hurled and swung about, often in random directions, then complaining about it being "too dangerous." Well no shit, Sherlock! Who'da thunk that standing in the path of a fast-moving baseball could be dangerous? Next you'll be telling me that it's inadvisable to stand in traffic! Psh.
This wins an Epic Fail.
"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived of the use of them." - Thomas Paine
Remember, kids: illiteracy is cool. If you took the time to read this, you are clearly a loser who will never get laid. You've been warned.

If he has muscles developed at a young enough age to throw it that fast, he does not neccesarily have fully developed joints and support systems associated. If kids can't hit a 30-35mph fastball at his level, why throw 40+? The only reasons are to say you can, and to cause extra damage to your arm. Neither of which sound like good reasons to me.

I agree. I didn't start pitching until I was older even though I could throw hard. We had limitations like 2-3 inning max per game. I don't think he should be playing in that league, but if that's what he wants there's no reason he shouldn't be allowed to.
The reasons they don't want him pitching are total bullshit though. Part of playing sports is getting your ass whooped from time to time. These parents are spoiling their kids and being retarded by pulling out and giving up. gj
