Okay, so imagine this. You're running a Mac, and you devote a seperate partition of your hard drive to Windows XP Home so you can boot an OS to operate games on. You get Windows XP working and discover, to your shock, that Renegade will not install, the computer citing a problem with setup.exe, and an error report that you can choose to send to some anonymous recipient.
Now, faced with this problem, I reasoned that, if the CD drive is making all sorts of funky clicks and whirrs while I try to use it, then it might be a problem with how MacBooks CD drives work. So my solution is to download a copy of the game disks in ISO format (With the plan to use my own CD key in the installation. Does that make it piracy?), then mount them as virtual drives from which I can then successfully install the game.
But, lo and behold, it still does not work. Setup.exe crashes right when I try to load it, and nothing's going to solve that problem, even sending error report after error report to whoever's making a collection of these things.
My question is directed to anyone familiar with this issue. I believe that, despite the fact that it may appear that the problem is evident (i.e., running Renegade on a Mac), the circumstances surrounding this technical difficulty are really no different than if I were trying to install the game on a PC. I'm running Windows on an Intel chip, with more than enough power and space to get the game working properly.
So what is the problem, and how do I fix it?
