I think they shouldn't have because it's the one time ALL nations come together and view each other EQUALLY as human beings, not Russian or American or Italian or German, etc.
Post your opinions please.

Didn't even see the Rp2 post...

Either way, there's no good reason to boycott the Olympics. Just sit back and enjoy the rest of the world getting their ass handed to them by USA. Don't make a big fuss over China's shortcomings. Hell, if you wanna boycott the Games, fine, but don't bother me about it.

Olympia08 should not have been in China in the first place.

@nikki: lol, so true

I voted I dunno, because I have no idea what you are asking. I think that the olympics should have been in a country that didn't have to as much uprooting as China did, but I'm not on the olympic committee. Without Paul and Morgan Hamm, the US is FUCKED in Gymnastics. But maybe the seconds can manage to pull out a win or medal.

Noticed this during 04 Olympics: Why recently, are the olympics held on US presidential election years?

We should go back to the days of ancient Rome, where people competed naked. Sure no straight guy would be able to watch any male event, but women's gymnastics, volleyball, swimming, diving, and running would more than make up for it and be that much more interesting to watch.

I take it that's where the expression 'going Greek' originates from.

True, and my mistake again, I do believe the Olympics originated in Greece not Rome.

Well, in that case, lets just have all the females compete naked.

I voted no since this is only once every four years and its supposed to be a time where countries put aside their conflicts for a few days and compete.

I don't even get all the hub-ub about the Olympics. All I get all day is people telling me about the Olympics and going to Olympic parties to watch them. I have no interest in the Olympics : /

People are making such a big deal out of little imperfections about the ceremony and talking about self-created images about China as they are fact, such as every single person being stripped of his or her right. For someone who's been to China a couple of times and have relatives there, I'm gonna have to tell these people that the majority of the Chinese population is happy with their life and not everyone is being suppressed like Tibet.

Although I did think that the computer generated footprints on T.V. was a bit irritating, but at least they didn't lie about it. Thumbs Up

What I found really off-putting, was the government's decision to have a 'perfect looking' girl lip-sync the song during the ceremony, while the one that has 'imperfect teeth' but has an awesome voice gets replaced because she is supposedly ugly.

Can you imagine how that kid must feel... the fucking government of her country telling her that she is too ugly to be seen.

If I read correctly, I believe that the names of both girls were listed during the opening ceremony. But I have no evidence to back it up.

And now, it's becoming even more likely that the Chinese likely faked the ages of their gymnasts.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10021343-83.html

If this is true, then I hope the IOC has the balls (which seem to have disappeared these days) to strip the winners of their honours.
