Most likely it'll validate it for valid characters, but yes.

On Vista:
Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center
Click on "Manage Wireless connections" and remove any networks that you no longer want (including the one you're trying to connect to, you have to change it's type...)
Start > Connect To. Windows will state it can't find any wireless networks (because you disabled SSID broadcast) so you have to click on "Setup new connection" or whatever it is at the bottom that lets you make a new connection, from the connection types menu, choose wireless AP / Router (NOT the "Ad hoc" one) and then enter the SSID, Passkey and set the encryption type. Click "Save" or whatever, and then see what happens.

Caveman wrote on Fri, 08 August 2008 16:14 | Dude if you want a secure wireless network its much easier to filter out the connections by MAC addresses. Only allow your network devices MAC address to connect to the network. No need for keys or anything else.

how do i do that? i recently heard of something like that but didnt know what to google

Go into the Network Connections, right-click the network adapter, then click Status. Go to the Support tab, then click Details. It's the Physical Address listed.
