Roofles. Unless you're really strapped for cash, do NOT get that graphics card. Get a low-end GF FX model, or the Radeon 9000-9500.

Geforce 4 MX400

Let me ask you this, how much are you willing to spend? I need to know what games you are planning to play. Do you want a card for now or for a few years down the road? If you're short on cash, get the GF4 Ti4200. It's around $100. For cost/performance, you're better off with the 9500pro, but ATI has stop making them so you gotta hurry. If not, maybe the 9600pro. Don't bother with anything less than these, they're not fast enough now, and will be a waste for future games.

If your in England and on a small budget, go with the MX400, its a good card and should keep you happy for a while.
I don’t know about know about any one else but PC cards, bits and bobs, are massively overpriced over here. Unless you buy them over the net you end paying threw the nose every time.
If you’re in the UK you can get a good reliable deal here.

Not the cheapest but I have always had excellent servis there. They have a good range of cards and have prices and brands to suit every one, there are even some extremely cheap Chaintec and msi cards there. Worth a look.

Please buy at least a DX8-level card if you plan on using it for the next year or two.

DX8 Cards:
Radeon 8500
GeForce 3
GeForce 4 Ti
Radeon 9000
Radeon 9100
Radeon 9200
Matrox Parhelia

DX9 Cards:
Radeon 9500
Radeon 9600
Radeon 9700
Radeon 9800
GeForceFX 5200
GeForceFX 5600
GeForceFX 5900

You can pick up a GFfx 5200 for around the same price as a GF4MX usually. But beware, these cards are just as slow as a GF4MX.

I would personally recommend a Radeon 8500LE, or if you can find one cheap enough, a GF4 Ti4200.

I use a Radeon 9500 Pro, and I only get 40-50FPS in game.

BUT, I play @ 4XAA and 16XAF. Odds are my visual quality is leaps and bounds above yours.

I wouldn't recommend the GF4MX to anyone for any reason (before maybe for extremely budget-strapped requirements but not anymore) because now you can get cards like the ATI Radeon 8500 for about $60 - a DX8 card that just about matches an nVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 and provides better features in many areas. If $60 is too high for the range you are looking at, now you can get DX7 cards like the Radeon 7500 for $30 and if that's not the range you're looking at, you can get DX7 cards like the Radeon 7000 for free (if you get a good deal) that will provide performance better than the GF4MX.

IMO the Radeon 8500, GeForce4 Ti4200, and the Radeon 9500 Pro provide the best bang for your buck in the graphics market.

Of course, again none of this matters too much for Renegade because Ren's graphics don't require too much. I have an old PII-450 system running with an ATI Rage 128 32MB AGP that runs Renegade fine at about 50FPS at 1280x1024 with decent quality.

The systems that I actually use (see my sig) - one with a Radeon 8500 and one with a 9800 Pro - both are set to 1280x1024 with highest settings and highest AF and run at the default Renegade max of 60FPS. (does anyone know if the max can be changed?)

It useless to try to convince some people who have never experienced good AA/AF quality into buying a more expensive card usually.

But have you changed the refresh rate of your monitor?
