Not sure if my information is right but i want a job that can give me lot or if not a good amount of money doing something i love so i choose computer tech (fixing pc's) something i can do already a lil bit and such...

well someone said i can make up to 25,000 a year?
is that true?

my second thing is i wanted to go to ITT Tech for collage while i can go to a local collage for THE SAME adgree with less money spent on it ( a freind said he went to ITT and spent 30 g when he went to another for only 6 g for same adgree)
well with that said im make this up lets say i do make 250,000 a year (if not jsut ignore it im making a example) does it matter WHERE i get the degree to make that money? or can i still make that amount of cash no matter what collage it is to get that degree?

Many companies will take into consideration which college/university you go to, but they'll always be looking out for the top students no matter where you are.
I can't speak from experience, but imo I'd say grades are a lot more important than the name of your educational institution. Recommendations from your professors will help too.

well i think of it this way lets say theres 2 alternate parallel dimensions one where i went to ITT and one where i went to a local collage for the same degree and the same job making the same amount (lets say make believe 30 bucks an hour)and like i said each one the same life same everything but one is ITT and one is local collage...well it basically make the same amount of money? because i rather go to one i can afford for the same job making some good pay

If I were you, I'd attend something more reputable than ITT, perhaps an actual university? ITT's degrees are pretty much worthless if you plan on transferring to any other school or try to further your education past what they teach you. They're not regionally accredited so it's your call on where you want to put your money for education.

I don't see how making a collage will do anything. :V

I assume that going to a college will give you the more core classes you need and electives. A vocational school will just teach you what you're going there for.

Clown and Aircraftkiller have hit the nail on the head, though.

That $250,000 annual salary prize is very hard to attain. You'll likely have to be the best in your class to even have a shot at it, especially if your only area of education is in IT.

If I were you, I'd be sure to look at a program in business, or something similar in order to give you a solid base, and income, and then go into IT. That way, when you come out with both business, and IT accreditation, employers will be sure to put your resume near the top because you have experience in more than just one field.

If my info on USA university pricing is correct, going for 2 degrees is financially very tough, no?

I'm plan on doing the same kind of job as you in the UK, but I no where near expect $250,000 (I'll assume thats a typo).

I'd say it depends on what kind of job you're intending to do with your skills. For example if you open a repair shop, don't expect to earn a lot of money; the public are more happier going to places that they have heard about than that small corner shop down the road.

Working for an organisation seems more promising to me, if you look for jobs that require IT support technicians etc and spend some time comparing and searching for them you can find some good offers. In many cases it might just be a matter of time and new job offers come and go.

A BSc is better than a degree or diploma, but that's not to suggest that a degree/diploma won't get you a fair job. Albeit, I'm not familiar with the education system of North America.

High salary's go towards technicians whom specialize in areas which are few. A C++ programmer will get paid much more than a repair man, but obviously that's not what you're looking at. Networking seems to be a good route to go down after you finish your degree, but there's loads of other options. Quite sadisticly, a repairman's job feeds off the money of morons most of the time. Most of the PC's you'll need to fix can probably be done by their users. However since the generaly public are under the delusion that pc's are complex, or they simply can't work things out- the repairman benefits.

If you can't get a good salary when searching for jobs, then try applying to well known corporations or just corporations in general who require your skills, I always believe that a self-employed tech guy is at high risk compared to one who has a stable income.

From there on, you can make your way up the job ladder- either in the company you work for, or by gaining experiance and moving to higher paid jobs. Many IT employers in the industry look for candidates with past IT job experiance (usually 1-3 years), as mentioned above business also helps your case.

Not to sound mean or anything, but I don't see you being successful in the tech industry. There are things that you'll run into that you just won't be taught, and from what I've been seeing from you, you haven't the slightest clue on how to figure shit out for yourself. That's what will make you or break you. The fact that you don't seem to understand how to use search engines when wanting to go into the tech industry is mind boggling.

Granted, you're still "young" yet, but you still have to start somewhere.

whoa.

To be blunt, simply fixing PC's will get you no where near $250,000/year. This is a job any bloke with a half-decent knowledge of computers can do. This is something I will be doing as a job in my spare time while I'm at college. Fixing PC's is a job that requires comparitively little training.

As an electrical engineer, I will not only be responsible for maintaining electrical computer systems, but also creating them (yes piecing together all the little resistors and transistors and chips you see on the boards of your computer parts). After 4 years at a reputable college, I can expect an average starting salary of $56,000/year.

And generally yes, the more reputable school you go to, the more likely you are to get a job and a better salary. However that's not to say a good school is guaranteed to get you a job. If you go to MIT and skid by with low C's, or you go to a Community College and fly past with solid A's (4.0 GPA), you will be more likely to be hired with the higher grades from the smaller school.

You've gotta look at colleges like graphics cards. Sometimes, yes, you can get the same deal for a lower price, but generally, the more you'll put in, the more you get back. Bigger/more expensive schools tend to have connections to major corporations that can sometimes even guarantee you a job as soon as you graduate. They sometimes can also provide better training due to better, more up-to-date facilities.

Bottom line, what you put in is what you get out. You HAVE TO work hard to go somewhere in life.

SlikRik ^5. I'm also in EE undergrad.

Also I guarantee the person with solid C's at MIT will get picked before the straight A's at community college person... Now if you had said Straight A's at a state school vs. C's at a private school I might agree. MIT is pretty much the top though you can't get much better so they would most often be picked first. :~~~( I wish I coulda gone there... Fucking admissions screwing me over.

The point is any decent PC tech should know a little about programming.. ( I'm trying see my PHP topic)

If you manage a company network. Then there will be a Windows Domain. Where for example VBscript its being used to make login scripts for the domain...(thus making little basic knowledge of scripting a must)

You don't have to be a miracle at it but its good to know something about databases MySQL, MS SQL and the.

Repairing PC's is nothing special know a days if you have that A+ certificate then you will be able to work in a PC shop or Webshop but that won't get you anywhere near that salary.

Go for MCSE, MCSA, ITIL.. with those certificates you can work anywhere where a Windows Domain is.

Linux certificates are nice too, but I would go for the Windows one first.

If you want to become network engineer, I would do Cisco CCNA aswell for the basics of TCP/IP and routing protocols

and for the record if I was a US citizen I would not study in College. Join the US Navy and go on one of those Nimitz Class Flight deck carriers. You can follow a tech education there as there is enough PC's onboard of a ship like that+ they pay the study for you.

Do you have an ITT-Tech, college, or university nearby you that does all this tech stuff?

You ought to call their counseling department and schedule an appointment. Write down all your questions, and go talk to them. If you're prepared, they can give you all sorts of direction.

If that's the case, then get on the phone, and give them a call. A good counselor will not only be able to give you a better direction, but they may even tell you if other schools offer those programs too. Just make sure you have your goals, and questions written down.

Another thing worth asking is if the school does a 'co-op' program, where the school sets you up with an internship with a company that's relevant to your studies. A college in my area does it, and in a lot of cases, the students are offered jobs by the companies they interned for.
