Also, Iran would not fuck with Israel, Israel would fuck their shit up so fast, by the time Ahmadinejad realized what was happening, there'd be no country left to defend.

you say "iran hates america" as if that makes them the bad guys instead of us (the west), we've done infinitely more to fuck with them than they have with us. as for peace between iran and the US, iran's already made genuine efforts to ensure peace, bush rejected it and then the US government lied to the world about whether it even happened.
as for building a nuke, pawkyfox is correct - you hear lying pieces of shit like cheney saying stuff like why would Iran need nuclear energy when they have oceans of oil - Iran went to the US years ago and pointed out the fact they need to export shitloads of oil and don't have enough for an energy program. US supported that. cheney and rumsfeld were in office at the time.
however, since the US is already sponsoring terrorism inside iran and since it's hardly a secret the US has already decided there's going to be a war with iran, suddenly anybody's surprised iran might WANT a nuke? what a weird perversion of cause and effect.
oh, and as for ahmedinajed's "wipe israel off the map" comment, please don't tell me anyone here still believes that lie

no, but then it's not a good idea for america to have nuclear weapons either. two points on that: iran isn't trying to get nuclear weapons, america already has them and so does israel (after lying about that for decades, then locking up the guy who busted that lie for about 20 years, and then refusing to sign any treaty to limit their use). secondly, iran doesn't want a war with america, america does want a war with iran.

I doubt Iran wants a war with either Israel or America. Ahmedinejad visited America twice not too long ago, and expressed that all nuclear weapons should be banned, and that the UN should be looking into making that ban.
I'm sure Israel wants a war with Iran, and that America (under whatever administration) will step aside and let it happen, though either way it won't be a good idea. Iran has major influence over southern and central Iraq, as well as Lebanon. Any Israeli or American lead attack on Iran would result in a jump in the insurgency in Iraq, and probably another war between the Lebanese and Israel.

Then he should openly admit that he either has nuclear weapons, or doesn't. I seriously think he does because of the way that they are acting. Ahmedinejad has openly denied that the holocaust existed, he's tried to cut off all western ties with the world. Now he's saying that he doesn't have nuclear weapons. Why should we believe him if he's acting like that? It makes absolutely no sense.
@U6795: I meant, ask your dad what we are doing over in Iraq and tell us what he said.

Plenty of people in the West deny the naqba (sp?) ever happened, is that so different?

Given everything we've done to Iran, can you blame him?

why should we believe him? given the fact we're the ones who keep breaking the NPT, are we the ones who have any explaining to do?

You guys know its not that we dont have enought oil, its that we dont have enought refinery's to make gas from the oil, we have to ship most of our oil out to get it made into gas then it has to be transported back to the usa, I think if we go to war with iran the oil companies will use it as an excuse to up gas prices saying we dont have enought oil..., and on the topic about the war, war has been imminent for the past like 40 years? 2000 years?

Well, nothing has happened still, and it now seems that Ahmadinehad could likely lose his presidency in a little while. Ali Larijani, the most public face, and leader of Iran's nuclear negotiation team is gearing up to replace Ahmadinejad in the upcoming election.
Already, Larijani seems to be the favorite of Ali Khamenei, who is the top-dog in Iran, and the conservatives within Iran are very upset with Ahmadinejad's horrible economic policies, and militant foreign policy.
It also helps that Larijani is a pragmatist who is generally unencumbered by ideology, and wants a solution to this nuclear situation.
This is probably why the US is slowly reaching out diplomatically... once Ahmadinejad is out of the picture, and Larijani is in, America will likely create more diplomatic ties with Iran.
This article by Time is a decent summation of what is likely going to happen within the next year or two.

This is why I take a lot things to do with the Middle East with a grain of salt. So much of it is bluster, and political posturing, and it has been that way since the 1early 1900's.
pawkyfox wrote on Thu, 07 August 2008 18:17 | That's great...but I have a feeling that if the higher-ups in the Iranian govt want a nuclear Iran, then pushing out Ahmadinejad and bringing in a moderate will buy them ample loads of time with the West.
|
I'm sure they will get Nuclear plants, and I have a feeling in a few years, those reactors will likely be General Electric, or Westinghouse reactors built in the good ol' USA.
I believe Iran wants guarantees, and money to operate a civilian nuclear program, and I think the US will let them have it, but with American or Canadian reactors that render the waste ineffective for a nuclear bomb. The big nuclear deal between India, and America will likely set a precedent too.
