I've actually had worse crashes when I was using a Mac. They're nice machines... if you can get past the ridiculous pricing and if you need to do not much else other than media editing.

Is it just me, or does reading SSnipe's last post make your head hurt? If there's ever a reason for people to actually type correctly on forums, that post is it.
Macs are good for design. PCs are good for office work and gaming.
whoa.

It's just the way windows was designed. Everything runs as the "super user", so when a program crashes, it can corrupt the kernel memory address space, or just sap resources from the OS until it can do nothing. That and brilliant ideas like integrating the browser with the file manager, the whole "activeX" thing, ught.
Before you fan boys rush to defend your beloved windows, read what Bill Gates himself has to say about his own company's product. He pretty much had a nighmare experience, that is commonplace for windows users: http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/microsoft/archives/141821.asp
EDIT: I do sadly agree though that windows is the best gaming platform...because, well thats what OS the games are made for. If not for gaming my main machine would be running linux.

Yeah, I read this about a week ago. It makes me smile when I think about people saying how "evil" Billy G. is.

If you house-keep and never use IE you should be able to steer-clear of Malware.
Before you go out and buy a Mac, just download and try Linux. You can run versions such as Ubuntu right off a disc without installing anything on your computer.
Why? Because Mac's kernel is similar to that of some Linux distros and they basically feel the same to use (apart from the colour scheme)
(Opinion)
Macintosh are trying to make people think there are two types of computer, the "superior" Mac and the "ordinary" computer (Windows).
They exploit every glitch of their competitor in their adds trying to convince people to buy a Mac, when really the product are just as unstable as XP. Trust me, I have one downstairs.
EDIT: Typing sentences without correct spelling in more than a quarter of the words also causes the NT kernel to lock-up.

Windows has its share of problems, but being natively compatible with 90% or more of everything is usually worth the occasional cock-up. This doesn't apply to Vista, of course- Vista is a pile of shit that never should have seen the light of day. XP, however (and 95, 98, and 2k), is quite satisfactory for most purposes after making a few minor tweaks to disable Microsoft's nanny-ware. It may be a personal preference from having used Windows for years, but I also find windows explorer to be more comfortable and easier to navigate than OSX's Finder.
On the other hand, OSX offers reliability the likes of which hasn't been seen elsewhere in an OS for a very long time. I have had exactly 0 crashes under OSX since getting my new computer; XP running on the same system has already made me hard-boot a dozen times or more. That, and OSX still has the minority advantage- fewer users means fewer fools cooking up malware for it (nevermind that it is less vulnerable in the first place). It has the virtue of running right out of the box with minimal setup compared to Windows. Installing pretty much anything is much easier as well; usually it is just a matter of copy/pasting something to applications and running it.
I've been using both since ~April and haven't had any major issues- and am now able to run anything presently on the market, which is a major advantage. I use XP for gaming and word processing and other things, and I use OSX to browse and download and use programs like photoshop and such. OSX has this nifty little ability to read a disk formatted in NTFS, also, which means that while in OSX I can still access all of the files on my Windows partition. XP can't manage the reverse.
IMHO, which is better depends on your needs. If you're a novice computer user or a non-gamer, use OSX. If you're a gamer and know a fair bit about how to plug Windows' holes, use Windows. Each takes a little getting used to if you're accustomed to using the other, so naturally if you try the competition after using one product for years you are going to find it awkward and inferior at first. I use both, because each has its advantages for someone who wants to be able to do just about everything and maintain a high level of security against possible threats.

They crash a lot, and are very slow. But the thing that really annoys is that as soon as you want to change a little setting, its incredibly hard to find that place that does it. Mac's are usually used by people that dont know much about computers and dont care to learn. But as soon as the users "knows something" and starts to install 3rd party software (e.g. better video player, ICQ, MSN and so on) its as reliable as a PC.

If you buy prebuilt computers and know something about computers, do a fresh install. Every godawful manufacturer wants to cram their whole line of halfassed software to it, which people will never use. A well built and maintained PC wount crash ...and dont use Vista, it just sucks.

I have more maintance issues with my XP machine than with my Vista one. Point in case... I'm watching my XP machine DL SP3 (again) because my brother fucked it over. He wouldn't be able to fuck over my Vista machine, because I could leave UAC on. (Mind you, he wouldn't be able to move the mouse pointer...)
Vista rocks for users who are unsure of PCs, like my mum. XP, is however, slightly faster. (Not that you notice with a quad core)
Not being able to run most games on Vista is a pain, and not being able to play Vista to XP over the LAN is also a major pain.
Vista does kinda suck for gaming, but is good for people like my mum, who struggles with PCs.

dunno about you, but my windows rarely if not ever crashes.

Personally, my PC almost never crashes. And when it does, it's something to do with the hardware and not Windows itself.

Mac software is too bloody expencive. Just modify a copy of OS X to work with PC. If there isn't a PC version already.
