The more things your card's gotta render, the slower it is. In other words alot of people and buildings in one area is gonna slow your card's performance down. All you can really do is to overclock your system if you don't wanna upgrade. You can either get a faster computer or go to a smaller server. Do you have AA or AF enable as well? That cuts performance as well.

i think its more than that, my computer is not the best, P3 600mhz, 128mb of SDRAM, and a 16mb ATI Rage 128pro, i usually get between 20-30fps which is fine for me (graphics set to lowest) also your operating system plays a big role in memory management. I installed windows 2000 recently, (used to have win98SE) and the performance went way up.

try changing the color depth, it made the biggest difference on my computer, if i had it set to 32bit color with lowest graphics and resolution, it would still go a lot slower than 16 bit color with the graphics and resolution set to the max.

i wouldnt, you comptuer should easily be able to play this game with full graphics, check for driver updates at the company's website for your video card, and check for other updates for windows, directX (newest version is 9.0) and anything else you can think of. oh yeah see if there is a fix for your motherboard, somtimes you can get updates for yourmotherbord/windows so they work better together.

make sure that you dont have anyother programs running, almost no matter how good your computer is some programs really drain your computers resources (kazaa is a good example)

I cant remeber with windowsXP but does it make you choose the amount of Virtual memory? if it does try turning it up.

also check your computer for viruses (it might be stealing your computers resources) use HouseCall its a free scan that runs in your browser and is always updated, only think is i wont recomend removing any viruses with it, just get the name of it with this and learn how to manually remove it. http://www.housecall.anitvirus.com

oh yeah how many frames do you get in a smaller game? like a 24 or 32?

make sure you don't have AA and AF turned on.

It kills frame rates on the GF4ti series.

Your looking at hundreds of Explosions going off a big tank fight, Lots of Snipers and Infantry?

Your FPS is going to go down if you look at the Battle. While on the other hand, Look at your FPS while in a Building, Preferably empty.

low fps happens when battleing but when i ask what others are getting for fps i get replies like 20-25 yet i fall down to 3 or 4 (impossible for me to snipe)....i play 50 player servers mostly but smaller servers with 20-24 ppl i get around 30 fps so maybe it isnt as bad as i thought..

even then i get that many fps on a 24 person game and i have crap for a computer, 16mb ATI rage 128pro, and 128mb SDRAM. i think your computer should be able to do a lot better than mine... does the NVidia site have a list of games that have issues with their cards? if you cant find renegade on the list, see if there are anyother games that have the same problems your having

in the renegade config utility, under the performance tab, you should have a section labeled 'texture filtering'. Make sure this is set to bilinear.

But even going from bilinear to trilinear filtering doesn't hurt performance a whole lot. But newer nvidia driver have 'issues' with trilinear. But I think thats just on the FX series. But better safe than sorry.

The only other thing I can think of is to check your BIOS to make sure AGP4X and fast writes are enabled. Most motherboards default to 2X AGP unless you change it. While the difference between 4X and 8X is insignificant, the difference between 2X and 4X is huge.
