Thats because xfire thinks renegade uses directx 8, which it does. But in scripts 3.x it uses directx 9. I think there is a way to change xfire to use directx9 but i am not sure how.

Go into your Xfire directory, and open xfire_games.ini.
Find the Renegade entries (there are two; you can use Ctrl + F in notepad), and find "InGameRenderer=D3D8" and change it to "InGameRenderer=D3D9". Save the file, and close and reopen Xfire. It should now cause no problems.
Note that you must do this every time Xfire updates.

If your using Vista the automatic tool won't work because the file location changed. I did tell the creator of the tool about this in a PM a long time ago but he never updated it.
If your using Vista you can use this modified version of the patcher I created (see attachment). Again, needs to be run every time xfire updates. All credit for the patcher belongs to the original creator, I simply added an elseif for if the file is not found in the old directory to check the new Vista directory.
Outdated information, See below.

I fixed my application, if you haven't read the download page on my site (v3 now instead of v2).
