So I try to install renegade. I put the install disc into the tray, autorun works fine, I click install and it tries to start install up but fails horribly giving me an error saying Setup.exe has encountered an error and has to shutdown. Now I know the disc isn't the problem; it works fine on other computers. So my question is; wtf is the problem? Im using XP btw.

Any "Details" buttons on the error message? If you have a valid key, try using the Renegade CD1 iso that is uploaded somewhere, I'll link you in PM if you want it. (I'm aware you said it wasn't the CD, but you never know Wink )

I already have an ISO, that's why I know it isn't the cd. And the details on the error are like 30 pages of jibberish ;/

I suggest you to use another optical drive.

I recently tried to install Renegade on my Neighbours' machine and it freezed at 99%. Then, after restarting the setup several times, I put the disc into the DVD burner and voilà -it worked.

EA-, he just said he's using an ISO. I suppose he mounts it with something like Daemon tools?

No, he said he has an image and is using the disk. His suggestion was valid.

I used some programme (forgot what it was called) to burn the whole thing onto an emtpy disc. So it still possible that it's my optical drive, however I have never had any problems with it. Also I have just reinstalled Windows XP, so I am leaning more towards an error with windows, but then again, I don´t see how Windows would affect a programme that´s running off a disc.

Try mounting the iso with a program like daemon tools, so you can check if it's the disc or not.

An alternative mounting it would be Virtual Clone Drive I think. And there are many ways to burn the iso on a CD:

-Extract it with Isobuster and burn a Data Disc with Nero (or any other burning tool). Use low speeds under 16x.

-Nero can burn isos itself without the need to extract them before.

----------

Check inside your computer if all the cables are plugged correctly. Replace the Data cables if necessary. If that doesn't work, replace your optical drive by another.

I've already burned it on a disc, which didn't work. Also, I just mounted it with Daemon tools, which also gave me the same error.

It also says this on the error rapport; Appname:setup.exe Appver:1.6.0.0 Modname:setup.exe Modver:1.6.0.0 Offset:0005ea4b

Tought I have no clue what this means...

Huh? A new CD is obviously not going to help him. I'm out of ideas on what the cause might be, though Sad. Maybe try reinstalling windows. :-$

Fixed it, turned out windows threw all my drivers out for whatever reason. Reinstalled them and it works perfectly again.
