My dollar-store calculator could host a better game of Renegade than that computer...

For how many players are you trying to host on your miserable P IV 1,2 Ghz?
Ren FDS is very cpu intensive.
Each bot will work just as well on any windows platform (except maybe vista). If the fds closes when u boot your bot, then something is wrong with the fds, not with Windows.

That probably means you set the renrem pass and/or port incorrectly. Renrem pass needs to be exactly 8 characters.

danpaul88 wrote on Wed, 06 February 2008 18:12 | A bit of advice: Don't try and host a dedicated server from a home PC, almost all home internet connections simply don't have the necessary bandwidth to host a decent server.
| Yes and tell me the reason why I will upgrade to VDSL in the Summer then? Oh wait, 5MBit Upload isn't enough to host a decent Server.
BTW & not to forget: Most of the Rootservers with a "100MBit Uplink" (ROFL) do have this Uplink only internally in the Datacenter and are not going over 10MBit in real due to the shared Bandwidth of the Backbone they're connected with.
BTT, install the FDS, then CP2 (with the scripts, not the BR), then install Nightregulator. The big Advantage of the NR is its GUI which makes it more practical when using it at home.
BR, CS, JBserv etc must establish an IRC-Connection and you have to open an IRCtool to configure and watch. This means one more Program which needs Bandwidth plus one more Process to handle. On older Computers with less Ram, this can be an Issue.
