To think my computer has only one slot for a processor and a Pentium 4 on it. Can they ever get it right at Microsoft? Big Ups

I believe all processors with hyper-threading technology show up as two.

Darn.
I was hoping my computer had mutated. Maybe I'll try Plutonium next time.

yea, your computer magically built itself a new core in its processor. Neutral

It would be very profitable to have a self-replicating processor.
Wait about 20 years and maybe someone will find out how.

Indeed it's hyperthreading which is enabled. And make no mistake HT is not the same as Dual core.. Because then it will also say 2 logical CPU.

That's where my "second" core came from...

I was wondering the same thing when I found out what was making my Red Alert 1 crash (This no-longer-mysterious second CPU) and how to fix it.

You are correct.

Windows interprets Hyperthreading as two logical CPUs, while in reality you only have one physical CPU.

On a side note, who else finds it hilarious that people who love to bash microsoft usually end up owning themselves and revealing their relative lack of computer knowledge?

I went to an Intel Keynote Speech once and they were talking about an 80 core processor.

Before you know it, quad core systems will be standard. Dual cure already is standard, buy any computer today and there's a very high chance it has a dual core processor.

The PS3 (no fanboys kthx) has an 8 core processor, however only 7 of these cores are used. The 8th is a backup incase one of these 7 failes.

Processors usually come in 1 physical processor, and more than one logical processor, or core.

Not true, there are a few games for linux. And it's easily possible to get windows games to run in linux.

TBH I would use linux if I had a os disk that I could go back to if I mess up installing it but I don't so I'm stuck with what I have.

Apperantly MicroSoft isn't THAT bad if you're using their products then. I think everyone in this thread with an opinion neads a nice tall glass of STFU.

If you purchased your computer from an OEM like Dell, just ask them for an OS restore disc.

You probably can't get a restore disc.

EDIT: You edited yours.

Due to the complexity behind the manufacturing of the cell processor, IBM reserves the majority of 8 core chips for medical (not F@H) purposes. Sony actually accepts every cell with a minimum of 4 working cores.

It doesn't really matter how many cores your PS3 has, because it will always be bottlenecked by the mere 256 Megabytes of memory.
