I believe my father is my father because he told me he is my father. God never told me he is god.

My father never told me that. Although it's possible he did when I was a baby in which case I don't remember it. Perhaps God did the same.

I beg to differ.

Humans have always wanted a purpose in and for their lives. If you think outside of it (like me) for instance, the outlook looks pretty bleak...you die and all that you lived for means nothing: all those clothes, houses, cars, jobs, passions, ambitions, and loved ones mean nothing but sh*t.

Humans have over centuries always found a "purpose" for their lives to explain the emptiness they feel. This is why religion was and is present throught history. From the Harappans to the Egyptians to the Mesopotamians and so on...all had religion embedded within their cultures.

I have talked to many religious people who say that that ability of humans to think of a "greater being" was "wired" into us by "God." This is a mistaken assumption that ignores history, science, and culture.

Just as Jesus and Mohammad are the "big guys" today, there was a time when Horus, Zeus, Athena and all the gods upon gods ever invented were a dominant part of their respective societies.

My laughs are saved for those who claim to know which god is "real" because recored history gives a much clear and more honest picture. People must understand that the human mind is weak...it is perhaps a flaw that comes with a highly evolved ability to reason.

People seriously should think critically about the issue and look for other sources of reliable information IF they are ever in doubt.

Which is why I unconditionally agreed with Muad's statements below. It makes perfect sense, fully logical and compliments recorded human history which everyone is very happy to ignore.

Who cares if man is flawed and needs false hope. Me, i couldn't live without religion because, then I would feel that my life is worthless and there really is no point to living. Because I really don't think that humans should live just to die 80 years later. What is the point? That is why I belive that there is something up there after we die, just waiting for us. Scientists say that what makes us different from other beings is that we can reason. That may be so, but what if the real reason we are different from animals is that we have a code set down by us that says that we must do this, this, and this, and not this to go someplace better.

I don't know about you, but I'd like to think that there is someplace better than this sin ridden world. And that is why I believe in Christ. Even if it is a false hope, I'd rather think and hope that, than to know that there really is no point to me and my existance being here.
