Well, lets analyze this for a second. (Note 1: please realize that the anylasis I provide is based on my own experiances with ACK that I have observed in multiple forums. As I do not know him in real life, I cannot give an accurate analysis, but then again, neither can anyone else. People can act different online than they do in real life, I have observed this myself.
Note 2: this is not posted in ACK's defence, but rather a reality check about the accusation made.)
Anyways with that said, lets see if ACK really is a Narcissist.
Quote: | Narcissists use everyone around them to keep themselves inflated
|
Everyone does this at one time or another, the difference here is wheither or not it happens continuously. No one can really give a yay or nay about this bacause no one knows him in person. However based on his forum behavior, this is not so. He may act like he's always right, but quite often he is, or is close to it. If proved wrong, he has backed down before.
Quote: | Often they find flaws in others and criticize them fiercely, for this further distinguishes them from those who are defective
|
This is true. But once again, most prople fall under this category as we all don't want to be assosiated with less than par (based on personal or standard quality) quality. I don't know how may times I've heard critisisms about the same bad movies, bad games, or berating those who display racist qualities.
Quote: | Because of their underlying need for voice and the resultant bluster, narcissists often work their way to the center of their "circle," or the top of their organization
|
ACK has never come right out and said that he is the best at anything or outlandishly bragged about (ie created a topic about it etc.). Unless his work is critisized or his opinions about a map, etc. are challenged, he dosen't even bring the subject of his modification quality up. He may have "Creator of Glacier Flying... The only fan-made map that has ever made it into a Westwood game in their entire history." in his signature, but that is just pride in ones work, and unless provoked he doesn't flaunt it.
Quote: | Indeed, they may be the mentor or guru for others. The second they are snubbed, however, they rage at their "enemy."
|
This however, I can't agrue with. Keep in mind that if you put in many hours of work to give "professional" quality work (One of his maps has private recognition -Glacier_Flying- therefore his work can be described as professional quality) You would defend your work as well, albeit perhaps a bit less passionatly. As well, as his skill increases he has publically put down his own older maps.
Quote: | Demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements
|
To quote again "without commensurate (Measurable by a common standard) achievements". Westwood accepting Glacier_Flying as a standard map gave him "commensurate achievements".
Quote: | Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation - or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious
|
From what I've seen, ACK just has little patience, and a short fuse. Nothing I have seen demonstrates him requiring excessive admiration, or the wish to be feared. He has always just taken whats given to him and responded passionatly but without care of how he is viewed.
So in closing, while ACK has demonstrated attributes of narcissism, he doesn't fit the whole profile, therefore cannot be deemed a Narcissist.
I appologise for the length of this, and in the future, if you wish to label someone, first understand completely what you are using as a label.
EDIT: just some spelling errors that I noticed

ACK, the reason he doesn't give up is because you're going exactly where he wants you to with this.
Now, from this point on, I'm not talking about just CaptKurt, but anyone who's ever spammed, ridiculed or just generally annoyed anyone else on any level.
Here's the thing, he made that page, and I'm sure everyone who supports him saw it.
The majority of the board members (most of whom support you, but some are neutral towards the situation) probably would not see most of his attacks on you if you didn't flaunt them everywhere. It doesn't matter whether you do it in a negative light or not, but now most everyone has seen it one way or another, whether or not they think it's funny or serious.
Making fun of them or getting extremely angry with them is what spammers want you to do, whether they know it on a conscious level or not. They want attention, and any kind is suitable. If you blow up and flame them, it's attention. If you just simply laugh at them, it's attention, and posting it for EVERYONE to laugh it at is even more of the same attention.
It's exactly the reason any spoiled brat does bad things; they couldn't get the positive attention, so they try for negative as a last ditch attempt to get any attention at all. I'm sure you've all heard that a million times, but it doesn't seem to sink in to all too many people on the internet...
After all, you don't see people spamming dead forums do you? If they wanted to do it for the fun of it, there's more than enough abandoned message boards that no one would care about. But no, they do it on active forums because they want to get a rise out of people.
I'm not trying to sound like a psychologist, although I'm sure I do, I'm just saying that common logic explains these things.
By continuing to provoke spammers and give them attention by doing things like posting their annoying little escapades on public forums, you're just fueling them with more attention and an even greater desire to spam and flame more.
Thus, in fueling them, you're announcing one of two things.
Either (1), you want them to get angrier - and I can assure you, they're not - which will solve nothing. They're not getting angrier, so they won't get so angry to the point that they stop. They'll just keep going until they get bored, which may be quite awhile if they're so deprived of attention.
Or (2) You enjoy making fun of the spammers. Well, in that case, you're just fulfilling their little escapades through the dictionary. Which are indeed funny, I've got to admit, looking at the words the fools decide to pick out because they look big...but you're just admitting to him that you it's funny by posting it, and thus: giving him more attention. It all comes back to that.
We all know the way to make an deliberate idiot stop is to just ignore him. If he's not getting any positive or negative attention, he'll just stop. There's no point in continuing if no one cares.
So why can't we seem to do that? Well, consult the reasons above. I think ACK's reason for doing it is because he finds it fun to ridicule the people who ridicule him.
Hey, I'll admit, it can be fun to fulfil that primal urge to retaliate against an enemy and crush them...But uh, hey, let me fill you in on something. No one's crushing anybody on the internet. Nobody's going to give in, collapse and see the "wrong of their ways". Ultimately one of the opposing enemies will leave, yes, but it won't be because of the barrage of insults. If anything, it'll be the tedious boredom of keeping up with it.
So, in conclusion...It doesn't matter how fun it is to verbally maraud someone over the internet just because they acted like an idiot. That's exactly what they want you to do. So, at the expense of losing a little bit of self-entertainment, I think constraining your instincts is but a small price to pay for keeping the community a much more welcoming and enjoyable place, to which new members may actually wish to come.

He could have used the table command better. He has three tables meaning pointless code unless he intended it that way. This would have looked a little better:
<table border="0">
<tr>
<td>row1</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>row2</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>row3</td>
</tr>
</table>
Heh, That was a HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) table for beginners. HTML is really easy and you can make some good pages with little knowledge of the code.

its all true ack
Nar·cis·sis·tic - (Nar*si*sis*stick) and/or nar·cis·sism - (Nar*sis*sizem)
Narcissists use everyone around them to keep themselves inflated. Often they find flaws in others and criticize them fiercely, for this further distinguishes them from those who are defective. Because of their underlying need for voice and the resultant bluster, narcissists often work their way to the center of their "circle," or the top of their organization. Indeed, they may be the mentor or guru for others. The second they are snubbed, however, they rage at their "enemy." Demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements. Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation - or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious. Summarized from: American Psychiatric Association. (1994).

Than you should also notice that him correcting spelling and grammar (Remember, there is no "e" in "grammar".) has absolutely nothing to do with narcissism. Have you even read that definition? lol... Read over your reply and think before you post.
Also, take some time to actually read what has been posted in this thread. Scroll up and read warranto's reply, it compares ACK to the definition of a naarcissist.
Basicly, most of the people here possess at least some of the traits that are described in the definition of a narcissist.
