Image optimisations[ 8 votes ]
1. I change resolution 4 / 50%
2. I change compression/number of colours 0 / 0%
3. I change Interlacing 0 / 0%
4. 2 or more of these options 4 / 50%

Who here changes the compression settings when saving jpegs/gifs?

What is your favorite hosting site? I personally use ImageVenue.com for jpegs (on other forums) due to its ability to input multiple images for uploading (so you don't have to wait for the page to reload some 10 times to get all of your images on) and I can store as many as I want.
The thumbnail function sucks, they should have it set up so you can post a custom thumbnail resolution (of course limits to this as 800x600 is hardly a thumbnail) and options for jpeg compression of them.

why not use the 100% free image hosting service at n00bstories.com? Its been free for 5+ years and never limits bandwidth or the number of pictures you can have etc.

I used to have imageshack but that is what it was: a run down shack.

I moved to Photobucket and have been a happy chum ever since. Simply the best TBH. No BS, page errors, login delays and what not. You can upload 3 pictures at once and unlimited bandwidth ofcourse.

Plus the site is arranged in a very clear and helpful format that speeds up your work.

The thing I noticed with Photobucket is that JPEG's and BMP files get smudged if you upload them. So when uploading into Photobucket, make sure the image is PNG. PNG is a good flexible format for me.

As for the resolution, it depends. If I am posting a picture in the forum, then I ALWAYS resize so it fits the screen. I can understand the frustration of seeing a big damned picture that just screws up the thread. That is being inconsiderate of others.

I never tried n00bstories but I know it is good as well. Speaking of n00bstories, I registered there like 2 weeks ago but I have yet to go visit LOL.

Putfile. Unlimited uploads, I can also put video files in.

My only problem is, that I can't use the picture at the original size. As seen by my attemps at plecos topic locking.

I use n00bstories. I use PNG, because jpg and gif suck ass. I also don't resize my images, because it's not my fault when other people have shitty screens.

Photoshop's Jpeg compression is superior, No artifacts and other bullshit, Same for .gifs (If it's not an animation).

Stop using MSPaint.

Yeah, JPEG's are useless. PNG is the most flexible format (in this case).

Gifs are good for animation. ;o

It'd be awesome if there was a image format for animations, that doesn't ruin the picture quality, like a animated .png, and I'm not talking about swf or avi. ;o

Yes, and most Renegade screen shots are taken in PNG this way anyway. (Unless you set it to the other format in bhs.dll)

JPGs work fine for me. I save them in 5-scan progressive format with usually a 10-12 for image quality in PS depending on the size. I can keep most of my 1280*1024 screenshots near 512K at max quality this way.

Nothing wrong with n00bstories iamge uploader either, I don't see why anyone here wouldn't use it. The only thing it could possibly need is the ability to upload multiple images at once.

Oooo how do I do that? I opened up bhs.dll with Notepad and found the "Screenshot is set to TGA" or something like that. How to make it into PNG? I just installed Ren and for some strange reason it is set to TGA.

The whole file is crazy with numbers and what not.

There's a console command to save your screenies as either tga/jpg (not sure which) OR png.. I don't recall the command off the top of my head though. :\

I use flickr for a lot of my stuff, which always takes my 100% images and offers different sizes for people viewing. (Which is good, depending on the camera I use they can be 4MB+ at the real size.

Screenshots I usually compress to 85% quality, just because there's no need for 100%.
