Hello, I recently bought a Vista comp and i managed to get the installation complete after a few attempts but now I cant seem to get into Renegade.

I get the message:

Renegade has stopped working
Windows is looking for a solution.

Im running the game as administrator and compatible mode: XP sp2.
but still no luck.

Gah. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it by exploring the CD, right clicking on "setup.exe" and put that into XP compat and admin mode first

Crazy idea, but have you tried running without any modes, and in just admin, and in just XP? It's possible that on your install, that will work.

Also try installing Scripts 3.4.4 DO NOT check bloom and shaders, unless you know your card supports them. (That should make Ren use DX9, which plays nicer in Vista, and will also install DX9)

Try running renegade without Admin mode or XP compat turned on.
Also try running renegade with admin but no XP compat.
Also try running renegade with XP compat but not admin

I'm just guessing, for me, it installs and runs on Vista with no issue at all.

In order to make Renegade work under Vista you must set game.exe to use XP SP2 compatibility mode. If you also install RenGuard you must set game2.exe to XP SP2 compatibility mode.

It seems to be one of those wierd Vista things that sometimes it needs XP compatibility and sometimes it does not, seems to vary from installation to installation regardless of the edition of Vista being used. Go figure.

Maybe try opening the Renegade Config program and setting up the settings in there (in both Admin and non-Admin mode, using XP SP2 compatibility) to make sure all the required registry settings are in place, and then try to load Renegade again?

I can only imagine that those tech-error reports get forwarded to the program creator/maintainer, which is EA for us, who would care more if you sent them something containing pictures of muffins.

The reports are sent to Microsoft. Honestly, you don't even need to run Renegade in any compatibility, don't even need to run as admin, just turn UAC off in the user accounts menu.

Why Renegade is crashing? I don't know, but I haven't had any problems with it in Vista. Might be nice to know what version of Vista you are running, 32 or 64. If it's 64, it does have quite a few application issues.

I ran mine on x64, no issue (Windows Vista Home Premium, x64)

I did say "get forwarded"
