Why the hell would you want to play with such a retarded device in a FPS game, you like dying?

There was only one time when I played Renegade with a ball mouse that my dad gave me as a present a while ago.

It was Canyon and I could not do crap with that mouse. I finally got Havoc and camped behind pillars near Ref. It was the one game I did not do shit but did manage to kill one Nod tech though. hehe!

So yeah, some devices are way too retarded for FPS. Joysticks are good for flying games at best.

I've read about some major LAN party in which one guy played the FPS games with a joystick and a trackball. It was amusing to everyone else and it was eventually turned into its own event; everyone would play using a joystick and a trackball.

One device that I would like to use for FPS games would be foot pedals, set them for left and right lean, that would improve my gaming skill 100% as my fingers can never really use these buttons at the same time as the movement ones. Sad

I guess, a jokstick with many buttons could do the same, but typing messagse would be slower then if you was using a keyboard and also, key combos would be slower, but maybe in combat, a joystick could be better then a keyboard, aslong the joystick is used for movement.

Actually, it really depends on what you are accustomed too.

I don't actually mind playing FPS games with controllers or joysticks, but I simply can't use trackball mice.

However a friend of mine had a trackball mice for a few years and it recently died due to static electricity. Anyway, he used it for everything, including some FPS games like Battlefield.

I tried it... and I just didn't like the feel of it.

I also know of one other person who plays Renegade with a trackball.

It wouldnt require any "scripts" or hacks to renegade, you just need a joystick driver that lets you custom define the actions, thus you could make it so that when you press up, its the same as pressing "w", etc. I'm pretty sure there are lots of programmable joysticks out there that will let you do this, although as it was pointed out, FPS games do not usually work well with joysticks, because of the lack of precision control.

Renegade needs to know there is something attached.

I have used many controllers such as a PS2 to USB and a 360 controller. They both work for other games like Halo PC and Star Wars, but when I tried Renegade, they didn't work.

There needs to be a way to get Renegade to support those sorts of devices.

This should work

Basically, it'll let you assign keys to your joypad. It works really well, but my controller is an Xbox 360 pad...

I'm not sure how well it'll work with a joystick.
