Actually me and stealtheye did a little research into this for a school project last year.

The verdict was that it is possible but not just simply putting 2 magnets above each other (cause the free floating one eitehr flips or "slides off").

Put little walls on the sides of your mousepad, and then it wouldn't slip off...

Honestly, a hovering mouse would be too much money and too useless.

You can't get gangreen from magnets. The iron in your body is such a low concentration and always bound in very very large molecules so large that the tiny pull on the iron atom won't move the molecule.

A human being can be attracted by a magnet though but thats due to the magnetic properties of water. You need one hella big one though (house size).

But the time you use mouse compared to the iron in your blood would result in something, I'm not exactly sure what, But you'd probably feel a little dizzy after 2 hours or something.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

So in conclusion, it's a dumb idea.

All this iron in the blood around magnets shit is retarded. I sleep on a magnet, and have for two years with no adverse side effects. I have a big giant donut magnet that is always under my pillow. I don't have anywhere else to keep it except on my head board. The modern world is filled with magnetic fields and you don't see headlines like "Millions die in tragic guitar pickup accident" or "Death Toll unknown after recent CRT TV viewing"

Well, it could well be a theory that hasn't been proven yet, But your blood does contain iron, and iron can be attracted by a magnet so yeah.

Have you even read what I said? The iron in blood is part of a molecule called hemoglobin. The chemical formula for this molecule is:

C738H1166N812O203S2Fe

As you can see there is only one iron molecule. Now a little math learns us that this molecule has a total weight in u of: 738 * 12.01 (1 C) + 1166 * 1.008 (1 H) + 812 * 14.01 (1 N) + 203 * 16.00 (1 O)+ 2 * 32.06 (1 S) + 55.85 (1 Fe) = 24782.798u .

Compare that to the 55.85 for the iron in the molecule, its jsut not a significant part.

Anyway this is all besides the point. Iron is only influenced by magnetism when its in a so called metal roster. Iron in that form doesn't exist in your body.

Never thought I would have anything to say here but I got to say something.

In 7th grade in my middle school (USA), the Science teacher held an experiment. He told us all to bring a big bag full of Cherrios cereal.

For those who don't know what that is:
http://selahgraphics.net/noendinsite/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/25950_cheerios.j pg

Anyway, when the class came together, he made a speech about Iron and then gave out small magnets to all of us. Then he told us to crush the Cheerios in their bag and we all crushed them to powder.

Then he instructed us to put the small magnet into the bag and shake further. We shook the bag with the magnet and the powdered Cherrios inside.

Then he told us to take the magnet out carefully. We took it out and LO AND BEHOLD! We could see irregular, tiny and small black pieces of Iron sticking to it! They were Iron!

Some of us could not believe it but that's what we saw...Iron sticking to the magnet!

Here are the Nutrition facts of the Cheerios:

That would be ion's in the cheerios. The amount of that in the body is very limited as it gets absorbded quickly.

The magnetic force on the 1 Fe atom would be

A. to low to pull the whole molecule
B. way to low to break the molecule bindings especially in such a large molecule.
