I searched through the forums and I couldn't find a topic that fits my exact problem. I installed the C&C Collection version of Renegade on an old Dell notebook running a pentium 3. If I choose to play the game directly after install it runs fine, however once I exit the game and attempt to play again, it won't start. The initial splash screen comes up, then the screen turns black with the hour glass mouse, but then it just crashes.

I tried patching renegade and updating DirectX, but it still doesn't help the problem. If I reinstall Renegade and then play directly after installing it runs all day, but the minute I exit to my desktop, it won't run at all. Please help me.

I'm not sure, some integrated ATI mobile card. It isn't much, but I know it's more than capable to run the game, I played through pretty much the entire singleplayer game by simply reinstalling every time I play, and pausing instead of quitting.
The OS is Windows 2000 professional.

The problem is getting the game to run after I quit for the first time after installing. Otherwise I can't play multiplayer, which is the real point of the game.

I must admit it's the first time i hear something like this :-S. Maybe a virus or spyware? Long shot... Try AVG free (free virus scanner) and spybot search and destroy (free anti spyware).

I solved the problem. Turns out I have to be logged in as administrator to play the game. That creates a security risk when playing online, but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.
