It depends on what you'll be playing with it (DirectX8 and prior it'll chew out, later it may struggle), what you expect of it (remember it's older), and what you have now (if you're moving up from a weak card, the huge increase will make it seem better, but if moving up from a comparable card, it won't seem too great).

Wikipedia's your friend.
PCI Express slots (from top to bottom: x4, x16, x1 and x16), compared to a traditional 32-bit PCI slot (bottom), as seen on DFI's LanParty nF4 Ultra-D
It's an AGP 8X slot, I think.
Purple one is AGP slot.

You have an AGP slot. So do not go out and buy a PCI-E card.
PCI has the notch at the end, AGP has it in the middle and PCI-E has it at the start. It's always been like that.

IW that card will not fit into his motherboard.

To answer a few questions.
1. Infortunately, the GeForce4 Ti4200 will not run Battlefield 2 (by default, but I hear you can "modify" Baattlefield 2 to run with it). It has the power to run it at low-medium at least, but EA required PS1.4 for the game, and the Ti4200 isn't PS1.4 compliant (it's 1.3). Back when the game was new and alot of people still had GeForce4's, this ticked alot of them off.
2. Battlefield 2 shouldn't be run with less than 1GB RAM, and it really likes more.
3. What card do you have now? Or since that AGP slot is empty, are you using onboard video (which would be Intel Extreme Graphics 1 or 2 probably)?
4. Nice Dell (no offense, since it's what I'm using too [only for a short while longer though]). What Dell model is it (looks like a Dimension 8300/Optiplex GX270)? I have decent knowledge of Dell PCs, particularly the socket 478 ones. Go one step further and do what Coveman said. CPU and RAM specs would help.
5. The 7800GS or better would be bottlenecked by just about all socket 478 systems. A 6800 or 7600 series card would be a better ballance. The 7600GT is just about on par with the 7800GS anyways, but if you can get the 7800GS for as cheap as is being offered here, why not?
6. What PSU do you have? The default one? That won't let you run a 7800GS, I'm afraid. The Dell PSU for most socket 478 systems is labeled at 250 watts (some are 305 watts), but that's their average. They can attain ~345 or so watts (in other words, if you rate them the same way you rate brand PSU's, it's considered 345 watts). The 7600GT would be the best you can use without upgrading the PSU. I've run a 6800GS on the stock Dell PSU for two months, but I don't know about the longetivity of it, so I upgraded mine.

Turn your computer off, turn it back on and you'll come to the POST (Power on self test) it will have some writing, press the pause button (Next to prnt scrn) and write down your CPU, Ram and anything else you deem important.
For example;
This is what it should look like. (Yours might have more to say)

Once you have that written down, turn the computer off and then on again and when its at post keep pressing del and/or F2 until you reach the BIOS screen. (Generally this is a blue screen with information)
Once in the BIOS, depending on your BIOS make/model you should either have details about the time, date, cpu, ram or have a list of option such as Standard CMOS features, PC Health Status etc..Using your keyboard press Enter on the first option (This generally is the Standard CMOS feature, if it isn't use your down key until you reach it)
In this window you should have details about your hard drives, ram etc...
If it lists what type of ram you have and the speed of it write this down as well.
For example;
Slot 1: 512MB DDR 133Mhz
Slot 2: None
Slot 3: None
Slot 4: None
Once you have all this lovely information post it here and we can assist you further.
Edit:
You could do it the easy way (sorry im real tired) and download CPU-Z and take a few SS's.
Either way you should have the information that we're looking for.

To find out your Dell model, look on the front of the case. It should say on or around the power button area. After looking again, that's not a Dimension 8300. The farther two memory slots would be 45 degrees sideways I believe in that model. I'm about 90% sure that's an Optiplex GX270 mini tower model. It looks identical.
To find out CPU and RAM info, simply right-click on "My Computer" and select "Properties".
Since that AGP slot is vacant, and it's a name brand PC, let's assume you're using the onboard video (which in the case of that PC would make it either Intel Extreme Graphics or Intel Extreme Graphics 2). To be sure, right-click anywhere on your desktop and select "Properties" to bring up the screen to choose your wallpaper and so on. Go to the last tab titled "Settings". It'll say here what monitor and vdeo card you have.
You can also do what Coveman said. Not trying to one-up you, but offering easier alternatives. That and Dell PCs don't show that BIOS screen by default.
Also, note what I said about the PSU. If it's the stock Dell 250 watt PSU, it won't run a 7800GS comfortably.| Dave Anderson |

I'm not saying it won't run well, but on my Pentium 4 2.8GHz and GeForce 6800GS, I feel CPU bottlenecks in some games/cases (I know this is so becuase I can turn off AA/AF and/or lower the resolution and gain no framerates in some games, though they are somewhat older games), so a higher video card would certainly be bottlenecked a bit as well. Since "most" games are GPU limited, this isn't a big problem anyway. I was just stating that he shouldn't expect full performance from it.

Despite what the enthusiast crowd feels of OEMs, and problems with Dell itself, Dell is still my favorite of the OEMs and what I will recommend to family who want a basic PC, but I'm finally moving away from OEMs myself now too (I've tinkered and customized but never done a full build). If you're into it, OEMs aren't the way to go, so I'm building my own and this Dell will be my last, and only for a while longer. I actually just got done placing an order on Newegg for a case and PSU, but I'm buying the PC in parts and wont have it done for a month or two. I can't wait.
On topic, I'd probably buy the card myself if I was planning on sticking to my AGP system, but I'm not. I got my current 6800GS maybe four to five months back for about that much.
