Okay, the problem is this:

1. Due to a virus that had completely torn up my tcp/ip and winsock registries, I ended up unistalling all games; including Renegade and Renguard.....

2. Upon reinstallation everything went fine, but when I tried to actually launch Renegade my screen blacks out and the game crashes.

3. I've tried deleting all Westwood files and Renguard, all registry entries, and updated DirectX and all display drivers. I've also updated scripts too....

4. The CD itself is fine and just incase that WAS the problem, I downloaded a copy of game.exe and replaced my original and gave it a try....

I've seen a few other people in the forum who have had the kinda same problem, but none of the suggested solutions have worked for me... I am a HUGE Renegade junky and am freaking out becuase it's been a month since I have played... I'm probally kicked from the clan for inactiveness..... Help me please someone?????????

p..s. I also get the WWConfig menu each time I try to start, windowed mode doesn't work either, nor does compatibility mode.

I run WinXP Professional SP2
My card is a NVidia, not at home right now so I don't have the full specs, sorry guys......

That black out sounds like installing scripts 3.X, then installing CP2.

Does Reinstalling the scripts help?

Thanks alot for the help, but unfortunately it didn't help. Could there be some kind of bug preventing my Renegade from working? I know that alot of ppl using GS are always talking about HAX and what not.....

If not, could there be another reason or am I just boned?

Yes sir, I had followed that procedure before I decided to go ahead and post, that I know of I've tried just about everything remotely related to this problem that is listed in the current forum history.... I think...

Thanks for any more help you can give.

When I look at the tech info in the error reports it lists game.exe ofcourse and a bunch of .dll's too... I've went as far as replacing some system .dll's too... It's the damdest thing!

It's some kind of thread access error or something..

Okay, I'm checking from work tonight, so I don't have the exacts.. I'll post from home later tonight, but this is basically the jist... I installed a couple of different things previous to this huge malfunction I had:

1. Norton Yahoo!

2. A TCP/IP performance enhancer from the anti-cheat clans website.

After installing these programs, the following occured:

1. The Norton software froze and after a restart wouldn't re-open.

2. Would not respond to a remove on the add/remove screen.

3. Completely killed my internet connection.

( I failed to mention this earlier because I have already used the norton-symantec removal tool and ran s&d and a couple of other programs, including manually and with Eusing clearing out the registry entries..)

4. My Winsock entries were corrupted and after using Microsofts repair program and TCP/IP repair I still recieved the 166.000.00.000 IP error.

(IPCONFIG/RELEASE AND RENEW DID NOT REESTABLISH CONNECTIVITY)

5. After struggling all day with this problem I decided to play some Renegade {single player}. When I went to launch Rengaurd opened and would not let me launch the game, so I launched from the game.exe original file and that didn't work. Then, a few days later after my connection was still not repaired, I decided to uninstall Rengaurd and did, successfully. I then went to launch Renegade and this time expierenced the problem with the black screen mentioned in the first post.

6. Since then I have tried all the things listed so far, but to no avail. Not even replacing the "inf" file for protocol helped. (I've hooked other computers up to my modem so I know its not that.)

That is why I say that I feel like I am boned.... Regardless of what I do, I can't get it to launch..

Specs I know from top of head are:

WIN XP SP2
DURON PROCESSOR
NVIEW MONITOR
NVIDIA DRIVERS
CABLE MODEM (CHARTER 5MB)
MY COPY OF RENEGADE IS THE ORIGINAL

I AM AT WORK ALL NIGHT SO ANY HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED AND I CAN DOWNLOAD ANYTHING I NEED TONIGHT ONTO MY STICK AND FLLOW-UP WITH RESULTS TOMARROW.... THANKS FOR ANY HELP....REALLY.

have u tried installing renguard again?

EDIT: TBH I think you messed your computer up completely with that thing you used so you might need a fresh start(reinstalling windows) that is only my opinion and this would be saved for a last resort
