Yeah, you can find your serial in the registry. Unfortunately, it's stored as an MD5 hash and can't be converted back into what you'd see in the original case.

You could just download the APB FDS and just check to install the westwood online component, as that would fix the problem without requiring a re-install.

Semi-related - Scripts 3.4.4 is pretty stable Just don't use Bloom and Shaders if your PC is old.

No, the serial is saved unencrypted in the registry.

Both are wrong. TFD stores the serial completely unencrypted but the normal renegade stores it with a reversible encryption based on the woldata.key (which is what the CCR-serial app does).

you can reinstall wol components via the install cd.
I think you can reverse-encrypt the key by putting the registry one into the serial changer (and clicking ok), then the one in the registry is now your original, which you can write down on paper.

I have two normal Renegade installations here, and both have the serial stored completely unencrypted, except that the dashes (-) were removed.

woldata.key encryption is applied when replying to a server's serial hash request.

Right but StealthEye, v000d00, SK and shiploads of other people have it installed encrypted?

Don't know why mine isn't then. I bought Renegade the day it came out here in Germany. Maybe it has something to do with another problem I had/have:
- I cannot connect to XWIS unless I remove woldata.key.
- In past, I wasn't able to use RenGuard if I remove woldata.key.

Sounds like the installer you have is bugged and somehow doesn't write the encrypted version to the registry but does generate a woldata.key (which then results in an invalid serial).
