Macs fail on every level.

So no, don't waste your money unless you like to use it to design cars and other shit?

If you're making a website for your cat, or a video for your girlfriend, perhaps a photo album then yeah sure...

But seriously, I know you do modelling and stuff, so maybe it's right for you. Just not a massive fan myself, i'm a right clicker.

Nay...I got a Mac machine as a gift a couple weeks ago. I only use it for 3D modelling and texturing.

I simply can't imagine myself typing up my college essay in it. We got Microsoft and Windows for that!

I think the Mac is good for art and design. Pretty much every art/design/graphics departments in almost every company (in the U.S.) use Mac machines. I know this due to my extensive internships at many companies.

The product design guy drafts in AutoCAD in a Mac. The graphic designer babe draws in a Mac. The photographer dude takes pictures of products and edits them in a Mac. And so on...

The very user-friendly and fluid looking OS of the Mac is a big + point when it comes to art and design and ease-of-use. But Vista is a big step in that direction too.

Try playing any windows based game, like Renegade, Halo, Dawn of War, an dozen mmorpgs, I bet you can't play WoW on it, hmm, you can't play the newest version of America's Army so on.

Used to think Macs were kind of cool, but they really don't have many special/unique features. With that, and the lack of games, Nay.

I think you're all forgetting all the programs out there that ARE NOT possible on Windows. Stuff like Crossover, Virtue Desktops and the like. You can only get these on OS X and that's one of the main reasons i like it.

How many of you here, who said no, can actually say they've used OS X for what it's built for, not for what it can't do?

I can run almost all windows apps nativley on OS X, with no problems. So i don't know where you're getting the 'lack of stuff' from.

Right now, OS X 10.4 is being gay on me. That, and looking at 10.5's screenshots i like the way it's built better.

For £85, i will be getting it, nomatter what you all say. Yes. £85 for the whole operating system, unlike Windows where the only one that compares to this costs £300+!

/me is going to preorder it, now!

So what in the fuck was the point of creating a topic of "yay or nay?" when you were going to ignore all of the dissenting opinions?

I created it for a profssional opinion vote, not so mac haters could just say no.

I WOULD have liked it if people who actually use, or respect OS X to tell me what they actually think about it.

Also, Oblivion, that's OEM isn't it? Not retail. Retail XP Pro SP2 is about £250 here.

For fucks sake.

HI GUYS THIS IS ME USING A MAC, PLAYING GAMES ON IT AND RIGHT CLICKING ON IT EVEN WITH THE MOUSE IT CAME WITH. THIS IS ALSO ME ENJOYING AN OPERATING SYSTEM THAT ISN'T BLOATED WITH BULLSHIT OR FEATURES. THIS IS ALSO ME BEING ABLE TO ENJOY FULL 64 BIT WITHOUT COMPROMISE WHILE ALL YOU DOUCHEBAGS ARE STUCK WITH 32 BIT OR 64 WITH PLENTY OF COMPROMISES.

I didn't fucking chose to switch, but Jesus fucking Christ Windows is a retarded operating system designed for penny pinching retards that believe they're getting a good deal.

DUR DUR DUR I'M USING WINDOWS BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GAME AND RIGHT CLICK ON MACS DUR DUR DUR I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT DUR DUR DUR YES MR BALLMER YOU MAY TAKE A SHIT IN MY MOUTH NO STEVE JOBS I WILL NOT SWITCH BECAUSE I FEAR CHANGE AND SIMPLICITY.

Of course I'm getting Leopard for free, because y'know, Apple is that cool and gives it for free to people who got their Macs about a week prior to a new OS's release.

Oh yeah, we get fucking Microsoft Office and it fucking pounds your asses on OSX (YES GUYS, MICROSOFT HAS A TEAM OF PEOPLE DEVELOPING SOFTWARE FOR CUPPERTINO'S OPERATING SYSTEMS, FUCKING AMAZING UH? NEED I REMIND YOU THAT ALL THE 360 DEMOS YOU SAW BEFORE THE SYSTEM WAS UNVEILED WERE RUNNING ON G5-POWERED MACS? OH LAWD INFERIOR PRODUCTS ETC.)

(no, OSX is not perfect/flawless, nor is it free of viruses (but they're a lot less common, same applies to exploit, and you can argue it's because the userbase isn't large enough to be "hackworthy", okay, whatever floats your boat guys, why would hackers want to let Apple spread these "horrific lies" is beyond me) but you guys need to fucking inform yourselves before spouting uneducated bullshit out of your collective assholes that you dare to call mouths).

I can only fucking wonder why Firewire 800 and 400 aren't common standards... Oh yeah, because Apple made it so we're mostly stuck with Intel's shitty USB 2.0 (3.0 is coming soon and it doesn't even come close to F400 yet, AFAICR).

(yes, I still enjoy building computers and all, but when it comes to pre-built stuff, I can only recommend HP and Apple, but I wish Apple would come up with a midrange non-all-in-one and therefore not laptop-based computer to compete with the likes of Dell and others, a lot of people think the iMac is a monitor and there's a tower hiding behind it or something)

More at 11.

Oh yeah, Mero: how is 10.4 being "gay" on you exactly?

FUCK

Lmao..oh man.

Aprime, macs blow ass. They are the tonka toy of the computer industry. You yourself said that they are a simpler experience, well simple blows. Thats why we use Max 8 instead of Gmax.

You know why Apple gives out OS editions for free? Its one of the only selling points they can offer and "penny pinchers" jump on that like flies on stink.

A) Steve Jobs blows: He needs to stop making shitty pixar movies and do something useful.

B) Macs are useless compaired to windows. I have never seen anyone emulate a Mac OS in VMWare but Mac users do it constantly just to function in this world.

C) Try Open-Office, its free for you "penny pinchers"

D) It's usb...Plug your wireless mouse dongle in it and shut the hell up.

E) God forbid we have enough buttons on out mouse to game. My mouse has 6 buttons on it and I still want more. Try playing Call of Duty 2 with a single click mouse....oh wait you cant without your windows partition.

Sorry, that's just a great big fat pile of shit right there.

The Apple Mighty Mouse comes with 5 (YES!!!! FIVE!!!!) buttons. A left one, and right one (under one shell, and by default they're assigned to the same function, but you can change them and it's not hard), two either side, which is mainly used for Expose but you can reassign those too, and a middle mouse button when you hold the trackball in and click.

The Apple Trackpad is FAR better than any other laptop trackpads. It's large, and supports multitouch so you don't have a sectioned of part for scrolling (you just hold one finger on the pad, then drag the other up, down, left, right to scroll). Right clicking as as simple as tapping two fingers on it at once.

Also, to answer Aprimes question...

My version of OS X has decided to be "gay" on me because:

1. It likes to randomly choose applications as the active one, when i click an inactive window.
2. It likes to hog RAM, making other applications run slow.
3. It likes to not do what i tell it to, instead do the oppesit (me: "close 'this' app" The OS: "OS X is now closing 'that' app" me: "NO I WANT THAT ONE!")
4. WTF is a kernel panic, and why does MSN 6.2.3 cause them?
5. Other reasons in which i can't remember at this moment in time.

Besides those points, which many of them are bugs only on my end (no-one else has them), OS X is fine. In some cases, better than Windows.
