Click Web help then find the name of the Codec you need, there on, Google is your friend.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

Weird. Media Player usually has a codec for DVD's.

Anyhow, go on to Google, and find the 'K-Lite Codec' pack. It should have a couple DVD codec's in it.

I umm dunt thinky j00r PC has a dvd player

Your PC may not have a DVD player installed, because even if it is DVD files on the CD, you might not have the codec for it because of no actual player being present, not sure, but try downloading "xp codec pack" and if that doesnt work, try updating to the latest windows media player, your error message looks like its from a older version.

1. All DVDs use MPEG 2 video, every windows based machine from at least 2000 and up supports that right out of the box.

2. Windows Media Player blows ass. Use powerdvd or the almighty (and free) Media Player Classic. Install VLC media player as a backup. VLC does not use direct show for video rendering so that means it can play just about anything without the needed codecs.

MPC:

VLC:

3. Google man, this is not help desk.

4. It does sound like you do not have a DVD-Rom drive as a previous poster said. They are cheap as dirt:

Basic DVD-Rom (this means that it can play any standard dvd but can not burn cd/dvds to a disk)

Recommended: (Can read and write to dvd or cd media)

See the thing is.

1. We dont know if he PC is old or new.
2. He wont post back so we dont know if he has a DVD drive
3. His windows media player is 6 or 7 from the error message
4. He may not have a mpeg2 codec so he should download a codec pack

XP codec pack rocks.

I haven't needed anything other than DivX and Xvid in 3 years. Its the Usenet standard and the torrent standard. Then if you come across some gayfer that encodes his video into a RM or MOV then VLC takes over MPCs job.
