This is a bit of a hot topic in the UK right now and I have to say I just want to vent a bit and see if anyone agrees with me.
For anyone who isn't familiar with this story it concerns a little girl from England who disappeared back in May this year while on holiday with her parents in Portugal. Now the story goes that her parents (well to do Doctors) had decided to go to a tapas bar one night near they hotel apartment with friends. They apparently were aware that the hotel they stayed at provided a baby-sitting facility at an extra cost, they however decided that they didn't want to pay said cost and thought it best to go to the bar with friends and leave their (then) 3 year old daughter and 2 year old twin siblings asleep in the hotel room and check on them every 30 minutes. During this time the little girl (Madeline) disappeared. Police and Parents claim she was kidnapped and there has been a major police search ever since.
Now (the venting part) for the last 4/5 months British papers have been (seemingly) talking about nothing else but little Madeline and her "poor parents" <--- that parts kinda irks me. I am a single mother of two, now if I ever decided one night that I wanted to go out and leave my kids home alone and one of them disappeared or was hurt, I would lose custody of my remaining children and most probably be imprisoned for child endangerment etc. So why do these well to do doctors get nothing but a 5 month long pity party? They left their children alone and now one of which it seems has paid the ultimate price for their flippant attitude to parenting, yet everyone feels sorry for them!?! And recently they have been named as suspects in their own daughter's disappearance, which they have vehemently denied, and still the pity continues.....
Whether they murdered their daughter or not I feel that their lack of proper parenting is completely responsible for their daughters disappearance and the only person in this sad state of affairs to pity or feel sorry for is poor little Madeline.
Is it just me or am I not alone in how I feel?
You have a God given right to be stupid. Please do not abuse this right!

kitten your right, I do feel these parents should just be ignored, they left their kids because they didnt want to pay a few bucks to have people baby sit, well too bad, thats what happens when you are too lazy, your kids die/get kidnapped.
My opinion, i think they killed their own daughter, maybe by accident, I feel like they sedated her, never went to check on her, came back hours later, and found her sedated too much, which ended up taking her life, I highly doubt they would go back and check every 30 minutes, what parent in their right mind anyways would even leave their kids ALONE while they go out to have fun, that seems very odd.
I can tell Kitten you are a very good mom if you can bring this topic up and show that you wouldnt do this to your children, it shows you take good care and love them to watch them, unlike these "poor poor" english parents. meh they deserve it.
i guess all we can hope for is their daughter does return, btu evidence shows the contrary where her DNA is in a rented car they rented AFTER SHE WENT MISSING, thus proving they dumped her body...well sorta proving....leading to.....

I think the Uk goverment needs to be smart and question the parents what happened, a while back a girl went missing in the USA, she hung out with a gang and the police questioned them one at a time, then after they wouldnt speak the truth, the police started saying "oh well the other guys already told me you did this and that, tell me everything now" and the guy spoke about what about he did to the girl, the police need to question the father of this little girl and if he doesnt talk, question the mother and say the father talked, that theres no point of telling stories.

Blazer, they had to do something, DNA test show that their kids DNA was found in a rented car which they rented after the "kidnapping" why would her DNA be in the trunk, the TRUNK of the car when they didnt rent it until AFTER she was missing, her DNA wouldnt be in the car's trunk if she was really missing. she was gone before the car was even rented in their story.
you may be right blazer, and I really hope she is alive and kidnapped (better to be alive and kidnapped then dead) but it seems evidence is pointing toward her parents as the culprits.

first of all, lets remember that they are in a foreign country. maybe its just me but who in their right mind would leave their
children unsupervised when they are 3 and younger, plus in a foreign country?
it just doesnt make any sense. i mean how do you call yourself a parent if you leave your kids in a country
that you dont even know let alone feel comfortable in? obviously the kids would not even be able to communicate with most people there even if they had to, so they couldnt even call for help.
now you go drinking in a bar... i dunno about you but i have never been able to pay attention to what time it is when im drinking in a bar lol. so i dont really believe the
parents even came back to their room more than once if at all during their outing that night, to me saying they were checking
every 30 mins is a far stretched lie. now i think we establish that apart from being too cheap to pay for a babysitter, the parents are also stupid and obviously unfit to take care of their children to begin with,
and are liers. now all this dna in a rental car after the dissapearance makes me think that they did infact kill her somehow and are now covering up for eachother.
if i were the judge they would probably be found guilty and enjoy a manslaughter charge at least, i would say they are unfit parents and should not be allowed to take care of their 2
infant children. and hopefully the papers would give them a month bashing in the papers now to even it out lol.

They just happened to rent the same car as the kidnappers, after the kidnappers had returned it. Highly unlikely, but still plausible.

That's rude and you shouldn't had said that.
Back to the topic, doesn't really matter if they are at fault or not, their girl is missing and needs to be found.
You should feel sorry for them, it's the human thing to do, we all make mistakes, no one is prefect, not even when it comes to kids, if you are honest with yourselfs, you could easy find faults in your own life when it comes to something to do with kids as I've said eailer, we all make mistakes, that's part of being human.

Clare knows the both of us. Though, I'm not sure how she's going to take his comment.
As far as what you said, what the fuck does us finding faults in our own selves have ANYTHING to do with the topic?
The parents need to be charged with a crime, regardless of the outcome. If they're found to have no involvement in her disappearance, they need to be charged with negligence, and if they are found to be involved in her disappearance, they should be charged to the fullest of the law.
I haven't been following it too closely to really have an opinion on if I think they did it or not.
whoa.

Read what was said in in this topic again and then you might understand what I've said in that post.
Kytten9, understood I'll believe.
The latest news seems to be that the Police are or trying to bug them, whatever is going on, I've think it's one big fuck up.
Alot of mistakes was made over there in the first 24 hours that shouldn't had been made.
I've also don't think they gonna find her, I'll think she is dead. :/
