As noted, you normally cannot take screenshots or frame pictures of WMP because of the way it displays the video. There is however, a trick that I figured out that lets you do it
It sounds weird but I promise it works, and I have used it to do this very thing...
Go to your graphics card settings, and find the "Hardware Acceleration" option. It is normally turned all the way up. Turn it all the way DOWN. Note that this will make your video card perform like shit, but it will still play video at normal speed and quality...more importantly, it is now using software rendering, which means you can screenshot the video and capture frames of it
Don't forget to turn your hardware accel back up when you are done
Note: If you just want to save a clip from a movie, use the above suggested methods (virtual dub or windows movie maker).
