EDIT: Virtual Dub is great for that stuff but it wont take the file from WMP because it draws on a different layer than your clipboard can copy.

Also Windows Media Player Classic is 1000X times better and it has built in screenshot support.

Something free and something that you already have. Windows Movie Maker. It will allow you go to frame by frame and you can manually take the screenshots.

Use photoshop, import the video into photoshop, resize, and save, much smoother this way.

As noted, you normally cannot take screenshots or frame pictures of WMP because of the way it displays the video. There is however, a trick that I figured out that lets you do it Smile

It sounds weird but I promise it works, and I have used it to do this very thing...

Go to your graphics card settings, and find the "Hardware Acceleration" option. It is normally turned all the way up. Turn it all the way DOWN. Note that this will make your video card perform like shit, but it will still play video at normal speed and quality...more importantly, it is now using software rendering, which means you can screenshot the video and capture frames of it Smile

Don't forget to turn your hardware accel back up when you are done Smile

Note: If you just want to save a clip from a movie, use the above suggested methods (virtual dub or windows movie maker).

It isnt as easy taking screenshot by screenshot as you will miss a few here and there between the constant play and pause, the best is to edit the video to the scene you want with windows movie maker or some other software, then open it in some photo editing software similar to photoshop (i reccomend photoshop because it reads videos and imports each frame when making a gif).

That also works for making old games like xcom run on XP.
