At least it's a more "environmentally friendly" bomb, unlike a thermo-nuclear device. Big Grin

North American's need not worry.

It's the people in Chechnya that are the ones who should be worrying. Sad

Here's the part were someone is going to say "It's the new cold war!"

My guess is that the scientists wanted to make a explosive without harming the environment. Big Ups

Oh well.. Pretty explosion, Me likes. Smile

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

There won't be a second cold war since it is impossible. Think about it for a second with global warming today the best you will do is a tepid war. On another note Russians say they have a 100mt nuke which makes them bad mother fuckers (even if this is crap they showed the world what 50mt looked like). Russia is coming into a lot more money to bring it up to standard again but they seem to be pretty sensible although they are pretty cheeky.

Actually, the 50MT bomb the Russians blew off decades ago could have reached 100MT, with one alteration to the design. They elected not to allow it to reach its full potential for two reasons- first, nobody else had a bomb even that big, and they could always just tweak the design slightly to increase the yield if anyone ever did build a bigger one. Second, the weapon was undeliverable except by bomber, and even 50MT created almost too big an area of effect for the bomber crew to escape in time (not that crew survivability would have been a major concern for the USSR if the Cold War had ever gone hot)- it was already too big to be practical, and was basically just a "look at what WE have" bomb that would never have been used in a shooting war.

"Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived of the use of them." - Thomas Paine

There is no winning a nuclear war. Even if a SINGLE nuke detonated in the US, the fallout alone would kill hundreds of thousands if not millions. And you can bet that in the event of an actual war, there will be a shitload of nukes and not just one.
