Old, Old news.

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.

What aggression? They flew their jets into our airspace, and we didn't get all upset about it.

It's not a Cold War, and it likely never will be.

Russia is still pretty damn weak militarily. They only have one functioning aircraft carrier, and the rest of their military is severely under-equipped. The Navy cannot protect the airforce, and the airforce is incapable of protecting the military.

It's all politics, and they are driven by Vladimir Putin, who is trying to distract his people from Russia's problems. Russian's are pretty upset about the end of the Cold War, and how their nation is STILL a joke to many in the West, so they need all the false pride they can get.

The losses of the Cold War is too hard for most Russians...but they should not be blamed for trying to restore their military. Like any other nation, they simply want recognition and repect.

Now that it is Russia that is the largest exporter of oil (not Saudi Arabia) it has given them a massive influx of cash. Also, Russia pretty much controls Europe with oil.

They aren't asking for war or being aggresive...they just want recognition and a rough military status equal to the West.

They are simply TOO poor. Their ruble lost a lot of purchasing power. Thus a lot of their Navy's sailor is underpaid. Most of their ships, vehicles are under maintained. Even if they DO bring another cold war.(Won't be likely as they are fucking POOR) They will probably resort to their old Nuclear stockpile.

Russia controls Europe not through oil but through natural gas mostly, obviously they supply oil aswell. and they do have enough resources to make the coutry a power to be reckoned with, excpet there is always someone who steals the money from getting to the very bottom and bringing up the society out of poverty. that is essentially why Moscow is now the most expensive city in the world (to live in) and thats why Russia has the most wealthy people in the world. because they jack up the people.
Putin being the smart man that he is is essentially depleting the coutry out of nonrenewable resources. and he isnt making any other ways for Russia to make money. so once all those resources run out, which will be a long time from now but they will be depleted none the less, Russia will be poor again.

But since it is his last term he doesnt really care. he is going to put his right hand man in the next elections and he will technically still be in power if his aide wins, which he probably will.
Also as for thos bombers, they have been used for surveilance for years and now his country is rich enough to afford sustaining them in the air once again and thus he put them back into commission since he can.

And its not really his fault that the west sees it as a hostile act. because the west is doing something even more aggressive. Bush wants to build radars and missile launchers in eastern Europe how do you think this makes a Russian person feel?

well i will tell you! it makes me want to bring some nukes to cuba and point them at the whyte house! now wait we already done that and its called the cuban missile crisis! so how the fuck is he allowed to do this shit now and not call it a renewed cold war? i mean if he really wanted to protect North America from terrorists launching nukes or missiles into here why not build this radars and missile batteries in Saudi Arabia? or Israel? why Europe out of all places?

so its only natural that Russians will be pissed and find any possible way to piss off the west. infact i wont be surprised if they start collaborating with iran soon or some other anti western country. and the thing is you only got the west to blame for provoking it in the first place! NOT Russia

Russia already collaborates with Iran. Many of Iran's weaponry is Russian sourced, and some of the nuclear facilities Iran runs are of Russian design. Russia has had ties with Iran since the late 19th century when they, along with the British, sliced up the country because Iran's monarchy was ineffectual.

Canada supplies over 2/3's of America's oil. Good luck trying to extract oil from Iraq, because as soon as a pipeline is repaired, another one gets blown apart by some other asshole.

Truth be told, Russia, despite having enormous resource potential, still has shit-TASTIC infrastructure. You'll be amazed to know that because of the corruption and idiocy that go hand in hand with Russian business, their state-owned pipeline company loses the same amount of oil as Azerbaijan pumps out of the ground, each year, due to leaks in the pipelines. Sad, eh?

Plus, Russia hasn't won itself many friends in the Middle East, mainly due to the fact that they are still in Chechnya, battling a fundamentalist mujahadeen.

Much of the money that the country is earning is being mis-spent, and has not contributed positively to the country. Organised crime is rampant, HIV/AIDS cases are skyrocketing, the discrepancy between classes is astronomical, and as I mentioned before, the infrastructure sucks. It doesn't help either that Russia's belligerency scares off Western Investment. But running a company in Russia, especially a Western one sucks major ass, because of all the kickbacks, grafts and bribes required to run that business... and maybe keep your life too.

So let Russia have their fun and games. It's only a distraction from the real issues, and sooner or later, they'll have their 'Orange Revolution' . It's only a matter of time, IMO.

yeah well thats what happens when a politician says i will clean up the country and do good for the people and make sure money isnt mismanaged and then 2 terms later he is stepping down and all of the above issues he never been adressed.

so yeah as sad as it is to admit you are right nikki, even though you seem to take way too much pleasure in stating all these facts which make me mad it for the most part is the truth. it seems the politicians in Russia constantly fail to put a sufficient body in place that will oversee the government. since lets face it the official opposition essentially has no power unlike here, and even here they dont have much. so the politicians get away with whatever they want and the country is not getting any better.

It seemed like more of a showcase than anything else as the Typhoon is quite some machine. I haven't seen the picture but it would work pretty well as an RAF PR piece.
