Wrong section, someone please move this to Win32 FDS.
First, download this: Renegade Free Dedicated Server 1.037
Then, take a look around this website, there should be some tutorials: RenegadeWiki
EDIT: What Mero said is the much less complicated way, I mis-read the topic. This should go in Renegade Client OR Win32 FDS.

Simply use the password feature. If your all playing from the same place your good to go. If your in different locations you may run into bandwidth issues.
There are plenty of servers on WOL, I'm sure you can find something that meets your needs.

Quote: | wow you must have never played renegade before, just start a lan game if you are all in the same house using same internet, or login to multiplayer and then hit host game, then pick your settings, set a password, and wait for them all to join.

Login to WOL -> "advanced game listings". You will get the list of servers. Ignore it but check at the bottom right for "host a game". Check the different settings, they should be pretty straight forward. Do not forget to uncheck "dedicated server", otherwise u won't be able to play yourself. You can put a password on it as well.
Then start the game and wait until your friends join.
Attention:
- if your upload speed isn't big enough, then all your friends will lag like hell. Get the one with the best internet connection/computer to host;
- if you have a router, then it might be some people can't join in "negotiating port with server error". Get someone with a USB modem to host then or learn how to forward ports.
You can find me in The KOSs2 (TK2) discord while I'm playing. Feel free to come and say hi! TK2 discord
