Windows is already very open for attacks with updates. Not updating at all seems pretty foolish to me.

No, Not really.

Just don't go around the Internet bragging thinking you're something big and you should be pretty safe.

Those complaining about WGA shouldn't pirate software. The only time that WGA was a problem for me was when I changed large amounts of hardware, so MS thought I was pirating, I only had to reinstall windows properly and reactivate to fix it.

This coming from a person who just bought a Dell and Mac.

Yes, I wouldn't buy a Dell desktop, however.

And I'd like to remind you that you've bought a POS from CyberpowerPC and bitched about it some time ago - we have yet to have any issues with our Dell products (only issue for me right now is that shipping of the laptop is delayed, you may have heard that Dell is facing somewhat frustrating manufacturing/assembling issues relating to the color lids.

I bought an iMac for various reasons (namely, the fact it was a great deal for the amount of money I was forking (ONLY 300 MORE THAN THE LAPTOP - 24" SCREEN, 500GB HARD DRIVE, FREE IPOD AND PRINTER THAN I CAN SELL, blah blah blah) - and the Inspiron will end up (in 4 years... Eh) costing me 2600 because I financed it with Dell (while I'm financing the iMac with my mom, lulz)), and I don't regret my choice as I waited to get the updated one, I think the laptop will outperform it in gaming-related tasks (G8600m GT vs. R 2600 HD) but in simple processing stuff, the desktop will be the best CPU in our house (2.8GHz Merom XE).

Speaking of which, iMac will be home within 6 hours, can't wait to start enjoying that dual 24" goodness.

Then it's system of "Virtual" folders piss me off because some share the name with real folders. Fancy series of shortcuts that are entirely oversimplified for jackasses.

No. Dont Get It

I haven't installed a Windows Update for almost a year, and I don't have any particular problems other than those that arise from having a Windows XP installation for a year and a half. AVG rarely detects any viruses and my router firewall seems to work great.

Basically, I don't want/need updates. Very Happy
I still have WMP9! It's better!

Mainly the problems with Vista are caused by the 3rd party manufacturers as AmunRa just pointed out.

Nvidia, for the most part.

I hear SP1 (or whatever it is that came out on the Internets) fixes most of the memory issues, so I'm probably going to give it a try on the Inspiron... Which I'll be receiving within an hour.

Mmmmhm. What about people who don't pirate software and still think WGA is a pain in the ass? The only way crap like that stops piracy is if the pirate is stupid enough to try and use windows update or the MS download page. For the rest of the people who bought their software legitimately, it's just another hassle that punishes legal users for the offenses of other people. That's like taking the statistics for break-ins then asking everyone to verify their identity before putting a new chair in their own living room. Don't even get me started on why WGAN is a stupid idea- it's the one update that I will continue to refuse from now until doomsday.

Vista isn't worth the money. It's XP with a spiffier interface, far more restrictive DRM (which, as said before, punishes only the people who buy their stuff legit), and is such a drain on system resources that it mocks its own existence. Half the programs out there that supposedly "require" Vista (and that's being generous) could easily run on XP... or 2k, or 98 for that matter. Vista is more of a travesty than WinME was- at least ME was a POS without the need to upgrade your system just to load the freaking desktop.

That, and for all Vista's so-called "security features," I was seeing reports of people breaking it several days before the official release. The only security features for a PC that are worthwhile are a battery of third-party software and careful browsing habits- and Vista won't give you any of that, just a massive hole in your wallet.

I've played around with Vista on several different computers, and I'm thoroughly unimpressed. It will never be loaded onto any of my systems as long as I own them, nor will I ever buy a system with it pre-loaded.

Remember, kids: illiteracy is cool. If you took the time to read this, you are clearly a loser who will never get laid. You've been warned.

I have been running Vista Ultimate 64 bit for a while, and if your machine is up to specs, you can really have an enjoyable time on the PC.

I love the new look, but I am a visual person, I liked XP when it came out, because it has a new look to it, and I like the Aero stuff now.

I spend a good portion of my life staring at a monitor, don't blame me for wanting it to look attractive and mildly colorful.
